how to look after your anime and manga collections

ok we all know that a few of the enemies of dvds, manga and collectibles are
1. dust
2. grease
3. scratches
4. finger prints
5. smudges
6. sun light
ect
and as collectors of anime dvds and mangas we want to preserve our collection to read or watch them again.
so how do we do preserve our collections
my way is to clean the outside of my box sets every month with kitchen paper and thats all i dont use polish just in case i ruin the paper covers on some of them and as for the discs when ever i watch one of them i will make sure to use my disc cleaner.
as for mangas, figures of character, ornaments ect im not sure how to look after mangas or ornaments or figures cause i only watch anime ( and cause i dont have the room to have a manga collection and my lil sister would ware and tare them .........she likes manga )
anyway if anyone else wants to give advice on how to look after dvds manga and figures please do.

Yeah... I don't do any of this. Well, I don't go out of my way to store them in direct sunlight or anything, but still.

I like having stuff on show. It might not always be the best, and people have a tendency to touch (and sometimes break) things but I never mind that much - just got to watch them. As of speaking, I've got way too many DVDs in my cupboard (inc. artboxes!), which isn't good. Everything in my collection plays, iirc.

Depending on the disc cleaner in question; by using it so often you could actually be damaging your discs.

I treat my stuff carefully but I don't put any real effort into it. I don't touch the disc surface where possible for CDs/DVDs etc, and store everything neatly on shelves; except they are once again overflowing and I've run out of walls in my house. I have heavy blackout curtains over most windows anyway as light is a bother (for me more than for my treasures). Beyond that I just leave everything alone.

if that the case i think you should start a lil project in 3 easy steps
1 find or make some space and if you dont have any try getting some wall shelfs
2 sort out your boxes on what you want to keep on display and put away
3 the things you really really treasure that other people want to touch should be in a glasses pad locked caseing
but like you said its the space which i understand

anyway COME ON GUYS GIVE SOME ADVISE

A good idea, if you intend to buy anime figures and collectibles, never let anyone touch them, specially people who are under the impression that they are in fact toys, it doesn't end well for anyone.

Figures should generally stay out of direct sunlight and cleaning them ever so often if a good idea.
thanks for the advice Lawrence i suspect you've got a few figures and ornaments

Figures are one a shelf above my manga collection very spacious so can dust if applicable but never seem to gather dust on there anyway, the manga shelf is full from end to end and between the top of the manga and the next shelf there's only about 5mm space so dust is rare and none of the pages ever yellow/stain.

Anime is in 2 storage area's above my tv, not in direct sunlight ever, (east facing house, my room is on the west and it sets on an evenining more in the south so the sunlight avoids the tv corner completely) Its too high for anyone to get grubby mitts on, though i have a bad habbit of getting discs and leaving them data side up on dvd cases below the ps3 and wii, terrible i know but laziness plays its part.

^ Most people do this, lol.
by the way besides the looking after and keeping your collectibles clean what top collectibles are your favourite and cherish the most
my top animes are
1 gurren largann
2 dragon ball z
3Neon Genesis Evangelion
4 naruto
5 negima
so far
i have other favourites too

I don't really care if I'm honest with you. I just jam the disc in the XBox, which is a risk using, and play them. I tend to watch a most of my anime only once anyways so they're rarely touched after its finished. As for sunlight, my curtains are never opened, job done.
