anyone know where i can import a blu-ray player from america so i can buy blu-ray anime, ive heard that they are $299 equalling to £150 ish and a £50 p+p prolly plus most of my shows are starting to come out on blu-ray, american shows oviously

Best option is to buy a US PS3 to futureproof.

Second best is probably a Blu-ray drive for your computer assuming you can change the region.

Third best, I have no idea, but there are little to no Blu-ray players even out at the moment that are worth getting.

Why not get one multi-region instead?

This particular one is out of stock. I've only did a simple search on amazon, but I'm pretty sure you can find in other stores as well.

If you're in London, it may be worth to visit the Tottenham stores and talk to people about it, just to find out the best players, how multi-region players work, etc...

And forgetting VAT and duty ontop of that. You'd end up spending ~£250 which is more than a BD player in the UK. Might as well get a PS3.

And check the region coding on the titles you want as quite a lot of BDs are coming out region free.

A good place to start is to get some of the "Home Cinema" magazines, that's where I normally start when looking for new kit. Also try some of the home cinema forums like www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk

I also have heard there is a way of re-setting the regions on a PS3 so maybe look into that, also someone will chip or sowftware/firmware hack them sooner or later. As for importing a player I think you will get hit with a lot more costs and problems than you realise, you may have other fees to pay ontop of standard duty. Also you have the voltage difference so may need to get some kind of transformer or new power supply if the voltage can not be chaged on the unit.

Also a friend of mine that is a real home cinema nut (spent £4000 on a projector) has only just moved into Blu-Ray as only now he considers it the right time, the player he uses is a PS3.

can i just ask if amazon is good to use for importing ?

Importing American stuff? Only if DVD Pacific doesn't stock it or Up1 can't get hold of it.

Importing Japanese stuff? Only if you can read Japanese.

Amazon can be a hit or a miss when it comes to availability and pricing.

Exactly, but you can quite often find an OOP item that is on Amazon and nowhere else. Or you can find a strange (but good) pricing on Amazon that works out better than most other places.

Except for the really hard to find stuff, I prefer going to up1 and the book depository. If you're talking about eletrocnics because of the link I've posted, that's a no. I've only sent that, as amazon seems to be a good place to search for stuff and reading a few reviews, before going to other online places to actually buy them...

They listed the first FMA tin long after it was OOP everywhere else, and I bought the GITS:SAC season 1 volume 7 LE from them a few months ago, when it's been OOP for years everywhere else. Likewise for them still stocking a lot of the hardback Buddha manga, and all the hardcovers of Vertical's release of Ring/Spiral/Loop + the same authors other two books - all of which were OOP everywhere else.

I'm sure there are lots of other gems to be found as well.
