IMAGI's computer graphics <strong>Astro Boy</strong> film continues to progress at a steady pace <a href="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2008-06-16/nicolas-cage-donald-sutherland-join-cg-astro-boy-cast">with the news</a> that the movie's voice cast now includes some big-name Hollywood talent, not least of all Nicolas Cage, Donald Sutherland, Nathan Lane, Bill Nighy and Eugene Levy.

Astro Boy is, of course, based on Osamu Tezuka's original children&rsquo;s sci-fi manga (of same name) that ran from 1952 until 1968. IMAGI's version will be directed by David Bowers (his only previous directing credit is 2006's CG movie "<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0424095/">Flushed Away</a>") and should be released at some point in 2009.

Ah, do want ^^. Astro Boy was alsways a nice litte classic to watch and I'll be looking forward to seeing it, Hollywood style. I just hope the Americans don't give the characters screwed up voices...

Too late. Nicolas Cage. Saying that everyone else on that list should have what it takes to make it work.

Donald Sutherland? oh crap the movie will be a snore-fest with him

The only thing more lifeless than Nicholas Cage's expressionless face is his lifeless voice. I can't say I'm a fan of his at all. Still I have hopes that it'll at least be something harmless and fun.

I kept reading that first post as if David Bowie was directing it and got a lil bit excited. ;D

I guess I think the kid from Malcolm In The Middle (Frankie Muniz...?) looks kinda like Astro Boy. Just FYI.

Anyway, as for the movie - I never really liked astro boy. I suppose I could see this being a ~success; Mainly because of the fact that adults and children will want to see this (I guess that the adults will take their kids along or something ;p) and, because of the name "Nicholas Cage" being involved in the movie >_>.

my co-workers ahve no idea what anime is about, but they did remember about astro-boy. So, chances are some people will see it out of nostalgia and if the movie is any good, it will suceed, I think. Let's see.. I know I'm just a sucker for this kind of stuff anyway and will be going =)

I didn't feel a need to create a new thread, so I searched and found this one. I feel betrayed by my fellow community on Anime UK News, that I didn't get the news that the awesome AstroBoy trailer we've all be waiting for so long is finally out.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Y23aI4HO_w8&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Y23aI4HO_w8&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Apart from the a few odd choices in the casting, visually, it looks very good.

From IMDB:
Kristen Bell ... (voice)
Nicolas Cage ... Dr. Tenma (voice)
Bill Nighy ... Dr. Elefun (voice)
Freddie Highmore ... Astro Boy (voice)
Donald Sutherland ... General Stone (voice)
Matt Lucas ... (voice)
Eugene Levy ... Orrin (voice)
Nathan Lane ... Ham Egg (voice)
Sterling Beaumon ... Sludge / Sam (voice)
Madeline Carroll ... Widget / Grace (voice)

As much as i'd like to believe what IMDB say, i'll wait and see before i believe it. IMDB have been proven many times before to have inaccurate information about films and so on.

You say Nicholas Cage is lifeless, but it's not as if Hugh Jackman is particularly inspiring, and look at his great performance in Flushed Away.

Oh wow. That is probably the first time a trailer has made me want to go see a live-action adaptation of an anime.

It doesn't look that bad.

This thing's being animated in Hong Kong. I heard a lot of people in Japan feel really humiliated by this given the historic tension with China. Astro Boy's like Mickey Mouse to them.

That's not what I meant. I meant CG. You should have guessed what I meant since a live action version doesn't exist.

I know one doesn't exist. I thought you meant you'd rather it was live-action.
