Hmm, might be a bit early...

...but I need some anime recommendations. I will be getting £100 bonus EMA in the new year since I attended all my lessons and I feel the need to splash it all on anime (and save a few to get that Japanese Book for my classes =P)

As you can see, my taste in anime have dramatically change from last time (abandoning Shounen forever, taking more interest in small and unique anime). I wouldn't mind importing tbh.

So any anime you can recommend me? And is Haibane Renmei any good? It seems the only interest I have in it is the fact it's art is by Yoshitoshi ABe and I loved the art style it used in Serial Experiments Lain.

Many thanks...

Is this you? If not, do you have a MAL so I can see what you rate highly?

p.s: Aren't soul eater and death note shounen? :p

http://myanimelist.net/profile/Chrono_Mizaki <-- That's my profile.

As for Soul Eater and Death Note. I abandoned Soul Eater and Death Note is a anime I really like, despite being overrated for its own good.

Just buy Berserk

I knew you were going to say that =P Whilst ounce of Gore isn't really my thing, I would take a look into it.

Haibane is probably my fave anime, and yes, it is very good, It will certainly leave you pondering even more than Lain!

Try Paranoia Agent for something in a similar vein to Lain. The Girl who leapt through Time is another recent good watch. Others I would put in the 'slightly different' catagory include Wings of Honeasime (sp?) the Patlabor films, and Mushishi.

Or you could go for the really weird and just watch Angels Egg

PARANOIA AGENT! It is ******* badass d00de.

Also I notice you've not seen the 2nd GIG of Ghost In The Shell, so get that. Thats just badass too.

You liked Witch Hunter Robin so I'd say Ergo Proxy too. I'm watching Darker Than Black for the same reason its yet again similar to Witch Hunter Robin.

Go get all those ;) ;)

I concur. If you like Abe's style then you should try and find the R1 of Niea_7, that's well worth a watch too.
Niea under 7 is the most laid back series ever! very fun to watch, but nothing ever happens there.
Lain and Haibane are the best works from ABe in my opinion. If you just abandoned shounen, I wouldn't recommend Niea right away, as it might strike as a shocking experience right now. I'd call niea "anime for minimalists". lain and haibane have more things happening and might catch your attention faster.
