I used to love Hitorijime My Hero — the story, the emotions, the character dynamics, everything. It had such a special vibe in the beginning. The characters felt real, their relationships were deep and complicated, and the art was full of detail and care.
But honestly, I was really disappointed with how it ended.
The art style changed a lot — it started feeling rushed and kind of unfinished. The expressions became less detailed, the panels looked emptier, and the overall atmosphere just didn’t have the same spark. It really seemed like the author wasn’t enjoying it anymore — almost like she just wanted to finish it quickly.
What made it worse for me was how the characters started acting differently. Kousuke used to be calm, distant, and emotionally layered — but near the end, he suddenly became overly soft and completely out of character. Masahiro also felt different; he used to struggle with inner conflict and trauma, but toward the end, he just turned into a simplified version of himself — more like a typical cheerful uke, without the emotional depth he had before.
It felt like the story stopped caring about character development and just focused on wrapping things up neatly. It was more like fanservice than a real conclusion.
I still have love for this manga because of how much it meant to me at the beginning. But the way it ended really let me down.
