Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Anime To Resume

The Higurashi anime has been green lit to resume.

Since I am on the 3DS, I can't post the link to the source which is ANN.

This news has really made my day since it was unexpected. I'm hoping that they adapt some of the DS only arcs as they are awesome :D

Still seems to be quite popular, I recall seeing it ranked highly in various wish lists, though that doesn't necessarily translate into wider market sales.

Popular yes, sellable, well... maybe not that much.
#114 - http://www.animenfo.com/statistic/top.php
#27 in popularity / ranked #123 - http://myanimelist.net/anime/934/Higura ... ku_Koro_ni

It is worth to remember that Sailor Moon is also insanely popular, but at the same time it was MVM's biggest flop (and the reason MVM stay clear from long series).

Yep, I remember an industry panel at Expo not so long ago, when they actually discussed the difference between popularity and sales.

It tanked badly enough for FUNi/Geneon that they wouldn't even entertain the notion of Kai, Umineko or anything like them - and this is despite having at least one fan actually in Acquisitions.

Hey, guys. I'm on the Acquisitions Team, so here's your answer straight up. I hope this doesn't come off as too blunt. Please understand that this is just how it is.

At the very least Sentai Flimworks could license Kai for a subtitle only release, you know like how they did for Hell Girl seasons 2 & 3 (What the hell happened Funi? Why no Hell Girl seasons 2 & 3 dub?).
Because not enough people bought Hell Girl season 1. Hell Girl had a lot of marketing support behind it. We actually did a bit more for that show since that was in the early days when we didn't have as many shows. Not enough people buy dramas.

Whey They Cry has expired and is past the sell-off period. It was the only WTC series that was a part of the original distro deal with Geneon. We renewed the titles that were part of that deal that did sell well. We let expire the ones that didn't. That inludes my beloved The Familar of Zero. :tear:

The WTC sequels and Umineko were not part of that agreement. We do not have the license to any of those series. Unfortunately, because WTC series 1 sold poorly, we will never buy the license to the sequels or any other title that bears even a minor resemblance.

You're better off asking Sentai or Nozomi to do at least a sub-only of the other WTC's. Heck, you could probably get the money together to license and distribute them yourselves. It's probably not expensive anymore. If Umineko sold as poorly in Japan as you say it did, then go after that one. It's not as big an undertaking as you might think especially if you pool your money.

Aside from that, the best thing you can do as fans is to buy series 1 from Amazon (so we can track it) and continue to post in the forum about how much you enjoy the show.

You can ask at cons or email Feedback, but do you know what will happen? Rojas will forward everything to me or my coworker. You've gotten through to exactly who you needed to, so mission accomplished. I'm aware of the series, and I love me some Sea Cats. Hell, I've cosplayed as Beato, and I'm playing the game. Unfortunately, I have to look at sales data, and signs point to not buying the sequels or Umineko and instead putting our money toward less riskier titles.

Shiroi - Yes, I know about that, but as I said popularity does not necessarily translate into sales, so I'll stand with my calling it popular.

Oh, Oh! I just remember about the best selling anime in the UK..... Legend of the Overfiend - which i dare say that is definitely not popular with anime fans.

Fair enough.

Another really popular series that flopped massively was Sailor Moon. MVM got so traumatised with it, that they vouched to never release a long series ever again >.<

I dare say it's not popular with the anime fans, maybe with the hentai fans, which is not an entirely different crowd.

They took a risk once and it backfired, so they''ll never take a risk ever again?

That's a bad enough attitude for individuals to have, let alone businesses.

There is a lot of exageration on her part definitely =)
WTC is clearly unique, but I do reckon it's low re-watch value, which could also be the cause for it to have been a flop.

But taken into the context of releasing the WTC series that followed, it's understandable they don't want to release series 2 and 3, if the first one didn't do well.
