For a very long time, I've mourned the lack of a George Romero-style zombie series in anime, so I'm tentatively jumping up and down with glee at the announcement that Highschool of the Dead is to be animated.

The series is notoriously heavy on the fanservice, but still. Zombies. Hell yes.

Sadly no word on a studio as yet, but I'll be satisfied if they just keep the little cameo from Shaun (as in, 'of the Dead').

Yeah, saw this earlier and posted it on another forum. I don't know how it'll get handled, to be honest I loved what I read, but it was a pretty shallow guilty pleasure in reality. I'd prefer OVA over series myself.

Zombies are rare in japanese media mostly due to the mannor in which most, if not all, funerals are in japan (which is to say, Cremation, so basicly, the japanese are mostly menaced by clouds of dust) so HsOtD is a rare and awesome beast.

Plus, it has some punishing scenes for people who fall for the same dumb tropes in zombie films.

To say that I was "slightly excited" when I heard this would be the understatement of the year. HsotD is an absolute blast, and the continuation of the manga is as exciting a prospect as the anime series.

Hmm, I think I'll just leave this here:

The animation is being done by Madhouse, which bodes well. According to Jtor, we're looking at Fall 2010 for the release. Alas, it looks every bit as crammed with fanservice as the manga was, but still - zombies.

*ahem*

Based on what I've seen of the manga, I'm not expecting it to be particularly big or clever, but it does have zombies and we aren't exactly snowed under with zombie series.

Zombies and bounce. And pantsu. How can it possibly fail?

Well, okay, that's how, but I'm a glutton for punishment when it comes those particular elements.

I stumbled across Romero's new movie Survival of the dead and I was thinking of making a topic regarding zombie anime.

I've never heard about this but I'll definately give it a go since I'm a massive fan of the zombie genre of horror......Romero's stuff, zombie flesh eaters, resident evil (the game) are all classic to me.

The Walking Dead is excellent too.

I see The Walking Dead has fans, even on here, so I might actually pick up a couple of volumes of that soon. I saw it in my local Waterstones (was angry they didn't have the latest Buffy) and AMC are adapting a show based upon it, so it might be good to get into.

AMC do awesome TV, btw.

regarding zombie anime

Are there actually any other zombie series? Unless you count Zombie Loan (hardly proper zombies) or possibly Tokko, I'd struggle to think of any others.

I remember reading a volume or two of The Walking Dead some years back. It seemed okay, don't think I was all that enamoured with it.

I saw this and I didn't really like seeing all that fan service but the zombies look interesting. Might watch it for those zombies.

I can't think of any other zombie anime. There's certainly nothing along the lines of a Romero movie.

As for manga, I haven't started reading it yet but I have high hopes for Biomega.

Walking dead is great once you get into it.
