At the Manga UK MCM London Comic Con panel, after jokingly being egged on by the other panelists, Manga UK somewhat embarrassingly recited the words on the back of their recent release, High School DxD with an ironic tone of power for all of the audience to hear:

Fueled by the fires of perversion!

And those words resonated throughout the room and the reaction proved just how enthusiastic the UK anime fanbase was to see this series, often lauded as one of the best romantic comedy, softcore "ecchi" franchises of recent time, finally arrive in the United Kingdom on DVD and Blu-Ray.

Originally airing at the beginning of 2012, the light novel adaptation followed the unrepentant pervert Issei Hyodo as he is killed on his first ever date with a girl, only to be revived by the sexy, curvy red-head Rias Gremory - the head of their school's Occult Research Club and more importantly, a devil. The revived Issei is named as Rias' "pawn" and joins the ranks of the Occult Research Club, which consists of Rias and the rest of her servants, in a battle against fallen angels across the city.

The series proved popular enough to warrant a second TV anime, High School DxD New! last summer and even a Nintendo 3DS Visual Novel last December. So it comes as no surprise that the publisher revealed today that a third season based on Ichiei Ishibumi's light novel series has been green-lit!

An air date, as well as confirmation of returning staff have yet to be announced, but when it is, we'll let you know!

Manga Entertainment UK released the first season of the anime on DVD and Blu-Ray, while FUNimation Entertainment in the United States has also picked up the second season for home video.

Interested to know what people's thoughts on this show in general are, especially seeing how it's sold crazy-well (Totoro was the only anime title to outsell it last month).

I enjoyed it, but it didn't blow me away by any stretch. The character designs are cute, and I suppose it does some different things with its premise/genre, but it's by no means is it ecchi's Madoka-moment (can you imagine...)

Are people just buying it because it has tits in it? Are they buying it thinking it's part of the High School of the Dead franchise? Or do people just really, really like this show?

There are other shows with tits and not all of them make it past 1 season.

I've only seen season one but I liked the characters and it had a decent plot with a sense of progression.

Cool.

This was a show I liked. It was something you can just sit back, relax and watch. For me, it had likeable characters and a decent story that moved forward at a decent pace. Yeah the story wasn't mind blowing or deep and in depth, but it was something that was easy to follow and understand and it wasn't trying to over complicate things.

I think it's ok. I don't mind watching it and my bf likes fan service lol. I dislike how it's like Freezing. With the heroine turning into the least likeable character once she starts to like a boy and becomes need and sh*t. Eugh *rolls eyes*

I hate both the main women in those two animes now. Come to think of it i prefer Saeko to Rei in HOTD for that reason too!

High School DxD was actually an experiment for my anime watching. I wanted to try out an ecchi show to see what they are and how 'bad' they could be in terms of story but DxD was actually much better than I anticipated. Sure the main character wants to eradicate titans... I mean wants to be perverted but I don't mind him (the episode with the Dragon Ball references was fun to watch). In terms of the female characters I prefer Akeno over Rias (but Rias has a great voice in both versions of the language).

I have yet to watch DxD New for legal reasons but I'll be pre-ordering it whenever Funimation reveals it's release date in 2015. I still hope Yen Press decide to license the light novels.

This wasn't a bad show at all, the plot was actually pretty decent for a "harem" show, sure the may guy was kind of annoying but what can you do. (Maken-ki is the epitome of a bad harem show)

Following on from what Normanic said, the DB episode was great, and Jamie Marchi was awesome as Rias, I can't speak much for the Japanes audio since I only watch anime dubbed (is that bad?). Man, it's been foreverlongago since I've watched this, think I'll marathon this in time for DxD New. Now if only Haganai can get a third season...

The English dub for DxD was fairly good, there were questionable VAs/acting for certain characters (i.e. Akeno sounds/acts fairly different in the Dub but partially that's coming from a new Funimation VA (the commentary was interesting to listen)).

Haganai will probably get a third season (sales were good for both seasons AFAIK) but there's not enough material to make one (each season takes 4 LNs, now it's on 10th/11th LN).

Ahh right gotcha, the way NEXT ended would have been a terrible overall series conclusion.

Agreed but as NormanicGrav says they are short on material at present, it's followed the LN's quite closely and last I heard only 9 was out so far (though 10 may indeed also now be out). It's been 4 LN per series thus far, so another year perhaps?

Baggie Saiyan, it's not bad at all that you only watch dubbed as so do I! Sadly the wait for certain shows because I prefer to wait for dubs is unbearable at times :p

Only seen the first season so far but my view is similar to the one above.

I know somebody who must be really happy about this announcement.
Regardless, I bought the first season from Manga Entertainment and hope not to be screwed over in my wait for the other seasons to get dubbed and released in the UK.

The only bad animefans I know in terms of audio preferences are the disrespectful puristic dub-hating sub-fans (all of this in one, yes.).
There are some bad apples in the other "categories" as well, but the puristic dub-haters are the vast majority of bad (and selfish/ego-centric) fans.

I mean I don't like some things that people show, have, say, own,.. But that doesn't mean I don't respect their taste/opinion/"being".
And that's my problem with the people who openly hate on dubs, dub-fans and defy all kinds of reason. (eg. there are at least a few great dubs out there for everybody to enjoy)
Dislike whatever you want, but leave other people be whatever their preferences in anime-audio settings. Respect opinions. Opinions aren't laws.

So, Baggie_Saiyan: no, it's not bad to prefer dubs! ^_~

PS1: Towards the sub-fans: there is a difference inbetween hating dubs/dubfans, preferring subs and disliking dubs/dubfans. Hating is the real bad one.
PS2: I don't want a dub versus sub war. I'm just giving my stance on who're the bad animefans in terms of audio preferences in my opinion.
PS3: This doesn't mean I respect the disrespectful puristic dub(fan)-hating sub-fans. I respect their sub-preference, but not their retard mentality. Sorry.

Yeah, the wait can be unbearable.

One of the worst waits I have in mind is Gosick.
A dub was promised for Gosick when I got into anime and early 2012 Bandai announced they'd be quiting the anime industry, thus cancelling the Gosick dub/release.
And now I have been waiting for a dub for Gosick ever since. And chances are it won't happen anymore.
Especially given how unpredictable Sentai Filmworks has been as of late and how focussed Funimation is on the types of shows they have.
Also, a part of me would've liked a Bang Zoom dub for Gosick. I can't really see this happening unless Anime Ltd dare taking on a huge challenge. (which would be interesting!)

So the wait can be really unbearable and I sometimes don't know what to do with my own policy towards waiting until the whole franchise is out to watch it.
I mean, if I end up disliking High School DxD I will have trebled the amount of shots in my feet. Maybe I'll change my policy someday. Maybe. Making decisions is tough.

However, I also have been waiting to watch Familiar of Zero for 3 years already in the hope the license would get rescued and dubbed.
And now Sentai has it, they aren't even open about their plans towards the rest of the franchise. It's becoming preposterous, much like Funimation's clarity on Sankarea.
I mean, if the rest doesn't get dubbed I need to make a decision towards how I'll watch the entire franchise.

And then there are the shows I wanted to watch dubbed, and don't really know whether I want to watch them subbed now they've been released without dub.
Examples of such titles are Henneko, Golden Time, NouCome and Pet Girl of Sakurasou. Also Waiting in the Summer and Letter Bee are on the list.

However, there are anime out there I'm fine with watching subbed.
Kiniro Mosaic, Black Rock Shooter, Ozma and Tari Tari all are great anime!

(yes, I have hideous taste, I know *smile*)
Nope, you don't have hideous taste. Just "taste". And not everybody will like what you like, that's all there is to it.
