I'd just like to say hey to everyone since I'm new here - I've just started to become involved in anime and manga - Ive got a few DVD's and books in my collection and I love them at the moment and would love to read and view more as what I've seen so far I think is great - My fascination in anime started when I was about 11 and I saw Dragonball Z and loved it!! I also took a liking to Tenchi Muyo, Universe and Tenchi in Tokyo - that was until my satellite got cancelled - then I never read any manga or viewed anime for several years (weird teenage period, dont ask!!) and in the last 6 months I've become even more interested in checking out anime and manga - I watched Ghost In The Shell and that blew me away!! Ive watched about the first 50 something episodes of Naruto and have begun reading the comics of Full Metal Alchemist - My main question to you Anime/Manga fans is what series can you recommend for me? and what are the best versions? - I have no preference for genre (apart from romantic really) and no levels as far as violence goes - I ask you as a guy who is starting to become enveloped in both Anime and Manga and they're are lots of good looking series but I thought I'd get an opinion from you guys - for example what would be a good starting point??? Sorry I've run on for a bit but any help would be appreciated!!!

Since you seem to be asking a general "what's good?" kinda thing, I'd recommend looking at the ANN top 100 and the AUKN top 20 lists to see some series that are generally well thought of, and a little reading up on them would probably give you a better idea of whether you'd enjoy them or not.

Personally i would reccomend Death Note manga. 12 volumes, a good start to reading manga. It a very, very good storyline with fantastic art and i couldn't put it down.
Anime wise, i would recommend Elfen Lied. Good story, lots of violence and gore, a little bit of nudity, but nothing over the top on the nudity.

That's definately another one to the to-see list.Heh, it's a pretty good place to check from time to time to see if anything a bit unusual has cropped up (it's how I first found out about Mushishi, for example), although it tends to skew more to newer stuff (Clannad at 4th after 5 episodes? Riiight... ). Then again, the AUKN list seems to skew a bit more towards the older side of things, so I guess it balances outmelonpan said:

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time :Though it has leapt rather than runs. :?

I found out about this movie via it being the Number 1 OVA on MyAnimeList's top 10 or 20. Might have changed since I haven't checked on it for a while.
