Help with finding a new router

Firstly let me say that the amount of money i have to spend isnt limitless, so dont go overboard if you have any suggestions! :p

Recently my router has been playing up (Random disconnects, unable to open ports, slow connection) so have been looking at getting a new one (its a cheap router that i got sent when i joined o2 internet).
I tried buying a Netgear DG834G as one of my old routers was a netgear and i had no problems, but the range on the wireless isnt enough to reach the top floor of the house.

So, i come to you for guidance! Anyone know of a good router/modem with a far wireless range that isnt over the top in price? Cheers for suggestions!

Hmm as a rule i recommend speedtouch 585v6's its a solid stable router which has a great user base and with the right firmware supports dmt software. Its only drawback is that it is only G wireless so does not have the range of the newer n routers.

But it is cheap at about £20. So you could get a wireless ap or repeater and still work out cheaper than a newer one. I've used a 585 for about 5 years and its been solid.

If you've got a bit of extra cash try this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Netgear-WGR614U ... 97&sr=8-11 I've had mine for 2 years now and no matter where I am in the house I can get a pretty decent connection. Plus its dead simple to install and connect to, just remember to set up a WPA connection as its the more secure protocal.

Careful, thats a cable router, that won't work if your on a ASDL connection, I believe.

Ah my mistake, I've always had cable 'tinternet.
