Hellsing vs Hellsing Ultimate

Vampire Ninja
With The Hellsing OVAs finally being released in single DVDs in the UK, Most of you hellsing fans are happy. Why woudent you? hellsing Ultimate is great......But is it better then the TV series?

Probably most of you think it is better then the series, but im not entirely sure. Theres something that i like about the TV series more then the OVAs. I dont know what it is though.

But what do you people like more?

The Hellsing I have was ******* terrible. I hate it. I think thats the original series, with the **** dub and annoying bad guys.

Edit: I may aswell say more. From what I recall the bad guys were brothers??

For me, it's easily the OVA (even though I've only seen one episode of the OVA). The animation is so much better and you can tell the budget was alot bigger for it (because of it being an OVA). I see Alucard as a awesome/cool character in the OVA, where as in the series I thought he was a bit.. meh.

Although i've not really seen the OVA's, i can probably say i'll prefer the OVA's. The TV series of Hellsing if i remember takes a filler turn half way through, and i'd rather stick to the actual storyline, which i tend to always prefer. OVA's as well from what i hear are pretty darn good in quality so to be honest, if i was new to Hellsing, i'd probably be more interested in the OVA's

I don't think it's a fair comparison yet. The series took one of the worst "overtake the comic and make up crap" turns I've seen in an anime, but we've only seen 1, maybe 2 (4 in Japanese) episodes of the OAV. So it hasn't caught up to the point where they differ.

Both have the same dub casts - a couple of whom are excellent, many of whom are atrocious.

Hellsing was a fairly awful anime. I only made it to the 5th episode before stopping, putting the series on-hold until I can be bothered to finish it. In terms of visuals, story and characters, it failed miserably.

Hellsing Ultimate, on the other hand, was amazing right from the start. Unlike the TV series, which left the gender of an important character and the reason for a vampire helping an anti-vampire organization in the dark, it started by answering many of the questions I had AND still managed to start in style. And, also unlike the TV series, the story then moved at a very fast pace, keeping the action exciting. If you add the fact that the OVA looks stunning on top, then it isn't hard to pick the winner.

The only reason I haven't watched beyond the first OVA episode is because I want to enjoy the series on DVD for some unknown reason.

I love them both for very different reasons, given their very different takes on the material.

The TV series was part of the reason I got into anime. Bits of it don't make much sense and a few of the filler episodes are a bit dull, but it has some excellent direction in places and probably one of the best anime soundtracks I've heard. The end was a cop out perhaps, but it had attitude and a cool feel.

The OVA's follow the Manga more closely and thanks to the occasionally superb animation make for some thrilling viewing. Still, inspite of their brilliance they lack something the TV series had, perhaps it's the music? The narrative is occasionally I little choppy too (not that it matters to me, I'm very familiar with it now), and while I like the addition of the black humour it sometimes jars with the tone.

My love of the TV series is probably down to a slight case of rose tinted memories - so I'll say the OVA's are preferable, but it doesn't eclipse the original for me. It had something.

This is a hard one for me. On the one hand, the OVA is much more stylish, bloody, and everything that makes the Hellsing manga great. On the other hand, the anime makes me feel nostalgic.

I think I'm the same as Wildcard here though - OVAs are better, but they don't have that nostalgic feeling the anime gives me.

Hellsing TV - Looked pretty good although the animation was clunky at times. The only reason I enjoy it so much is because of the reasons others have said being one of the first anime I consciously watched. The story of the second half of the series wasn't great or even that good but it was watchable and it ended. The music is the best part of the original series and that's not the nostalgia talking. It's an awesome soundtrack and I still listen to it every now and then even if I haven't seen the series in a long time.

Hellsing Ultimate - The character designs stand out, the animation had a lot more flow and the action sequences are more graphic. It follows the manga a lot closer and that's it's downfall because the manga is a snoozer after the first few volumes. However average the original story for the TV series was the manga story is just worse. The soundtrack just can't compete with the original either.

Looking at them as a reviewer neither series is that great but the story has that shallow charm almost channeling older anime of the North Star era. For me the TV series is a lot more entertaining simply because out of it I've got so much enjoyment out of it and because of the soundtrack continue to. Hellsing Ultimate is just like the manga, starts off great but quickly crashes and burns.

The original series was one of the first animes I watched that watched that wasn't a Shounen Jump manga and thus i've got fond memories of it.

The new OVAs seemed pretty slick though. And I much prefer the whole nazi storyline.

Am I the only one who doesn't really think there is much difference? Have only seen the first episode of Ultimate, against the whole of the other one and have read none of the manga. Because of this don't seem to hate the ending of the TV series as much as those who have read the manga.
Between the two haven't seen much difference in plot, or character design. Animation quality is different but there is a sizable age difference between the two.
Will wait too see if there is a difference between the two.

The OST for the TV series had far more flare and style. The OVA better follows the manga (which i prefer to them both).

I'd say listen to the two OST's for the TV series and read the Manga :)
