Hello from Sweden!

gamepao

Hikikomori
I've been watching anime since i was a kid, Flame of Recca, yuyu hakusho, Zenki, etc.
And even Sailor moon, even though I feel its was meant for girls that time.

And I started reading Mangas in 2008, the Genres that I love are -
shounen,
ecchi,
seinen,
horror,
mecha,
anything that can make it badass.

Age: 26
Gender: Male
Location: Sweden
Prefers: Subs
Pets: Cat, a very lovely one

I feel like the new animes these days are kinda lame, most of them; not all.
I feel like they are made for sissies, I hope I'm not offending anyone.

I'm sure you will know what I mean when you see this image:
(yeah, I dont like it either..)

Hi there, I've just joined today so I can't exactly welcome you to the board but your intro intrigued me. I also felt bad that no one had responded to your intro, welcoming community, eh? :)

You seem to dislike SAO, is that a popular opinion among anime fans? I had no idea it was looked down upon. I would credit it with getting me back into anime, I loved every minute of it personally! I can happily switch from watching mechs/ninjas to soppy love stories with faeries and back again. Both have their place IMO. Sometimes it's nice to have something a little light hearted to brighten your day!

Hi there, welcome to the forum (apologises I've been busy lately)!

Sword Art Online does tend to have a mixed opinion among the community and I can understand why (pacing, fanservice and how it was adapted). Out of 10 I gave the first season (both Aincrad and Fairy Dance) around 6-7 given I really enjoyed the first half but had mixed thoughts on the second. Despite the flaws that the show had I still wanted to own the show (and I uhh.. got those expensive Aniplex sets before they sold out). The second season is much better in my opinion though, and the light novel is pretty good.

I'll give you the fanservcice comment. There are some totally unnecessary shots of the sister in the second half and her breasts seem to inflate at times! I'll admit that I usually prefer to wait for the dub to come out to see if it's good, if it seems terrible then I'll go back and watch with subs. Can't wait for SAOII to be dubbed.

I'd love to own it but even with the current offer on zavvi.com it's £71 for the 4 parts on Blu-Ray, and that's with no extras :(

Sorry to hijack your thread gamepao!

Hello to both of you! I don't usually say hi because most people post introductions then completely disappear forever ;_;

I think the issue with Sword Art Online is that it's massively popular and thus, many people have seen it. Thus the group of people who kept watching the show even after deciding they didn't like it is larger than it is for most series and it gets a lot of bashing as a result. I don't think it's any worse than most other shows aimed at teens and the like; it's well made and exciting with good animation. I dropped it one episode in to the second season as I'd had enough but that's just because I stopped being able to suspend my disbelief at the crazy plot (I think it was the special episode which aired first that actually finished me off) :)

Hi there!

Haha, maybe I'm watching the wrong anime, they all seem to have highly unrealistic plots to me. I'm used to checking my, usually logical mind out at the door :)

I might start a proper thread asking for some recommendations, I've missed so much over the years, I don't want to waste time watching things that are regarded as sub-par.

I'm interested to see what SAOII is like, given that you could only make it one episode in!

Yeah, please don't think that it's going to suck just because I dropped it. My taste is not all that normal :D

The people who like SAO more seemed to get a lot out of the second season.

You are going to go places, my friend. With an attitude like the above and a completely justified dislike of Sword Art Online, you are in my good books. Keep it up, and remember to steer clear of Attack on Titan. :thumb:

Hello and welcome to the forums!

I watched ep 1 of Sword Art Online and loved it. Then I watched ep 2 and the pacing was weird and I wasn't sure about the direction it was going in. Eps 3-6 then put me off the show completely as it was evident it wasn't the series I thought it was going to be. Haven't watched any of it since! I like Accel World though.

Sword Art Online is still on my to watch and to buy list lol. I'll be waiting until its less than £20 per part of if they merge em into one big thing lol.

Welcome!

Sword Art Online was a great premise with terrible execution IMO. I watched the first series and was thoroughly fed up by the end, so I didn't watch the second one. Kirito was far too much of a teenage boy wish fulfilment character, even more so than most shonen shows.

As a big MMO player I think it was the premise that kept me going a lot of the time rather than the quality of the script. I think that from a 'wish fulfilment' point of view Kirito could have been much worse, at least he didn't end up bedding his sister, I thought it was going to go there at one point!

I know a lot of people absolutely detest the second arc, but personally I thought it approached the taboo subject matter in an interesting manner. Yes, it's icky, and yes, it's pretty hammy - but I think it also does what SAO has always done really well - OTT emotion and gut-punch confessions. One of the reasons people like anime so much is that it goes places Western media never would - and I think in seeing his sister come to terms with her feelings, even if it's distasteful, you can potentially appreciate the degree of the emotion, if not the cause of it.
