Good, Short Manga

Hey guys.

As you can imagine, xmas is coming and I've had people asking about what I'm after, and I've been asked what manga I want.

Since my last posting here, I've moved forward from all the Shounen stuff, so I'm not really after Naruto or One Piece etc. So can you reccomend a good, short series? I need it short cause I dont realy have money coming in to keep buying manga. (It really does eat up your cash).

Well, depends what you class as short :p

FLCL is 2 volumes long. You might like that. I'm watching that as we speak, and I'm enjoying it.

If you want more mature/seinen then you could try The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service. I'm also reading this and it's very enjoyable. It's eight volumes long (still ongoing) so it's not exactly huge. I guess the genre is more dark tone/horror/mystery.

There is also a few series I could name that are about 8 volumes long that I haven't finished/started yet; Chobits (a romance/sci-fi), Welcome to the N.H.K (otaku/?), Chrno Crusade (action), etc..
 
Chono crsade is 8 volumes long and is awesome.
Read or Dream is 4 volumes long and also awesome (if you like that kind of manga)
My hime is fun as well.

Going by the anime series i would also vote for the Chrono Crusade manga :P (in fact you should watch that series as well)

After looking at my own manga collection i'm not sure i can help in the short manga series (though you could get the Ghost in the Shell manga). The only short ones i have is Gundam Seed Astray (better then the series it spun off from, Lowe Gear is far better a character then Kira Yamato) and .Hack Legend of the Twilight. I guess i could put in a word about Buso Renkin but that's probably longer then your asking for at 10 volumes...plus its the shouen jump label still :P
 
.hack legend of the twilight bracelet is 3 volumes long and good fun. the only attempt I've made into the .hack franshise so far, which left me wanting more. Although I've heard it's a bit more serious than twilight.
 
Wait that's the same series i have :? Plus it differs greatly from the anime of the same name (for example, Aura's daughter isn't in the anime version) but yeah it is a different sort of experince to what both the games and the other .Hack anime and manga entries :P

Other bits Line is a great 1 volume head mess up, if you like that Anna Freaks is by the same person and is only 4 volumes about a cult like group and a psychotic girl.

To be fair the film only took that later chapters of the manga so there is a lot of stuff in there which you won't have seen :P Plus the other stuff like Ghost in the Shell 1.5 and Ghost in the Shell 2 (not related to the movie as far as i'm aware)

Appleseed and Orion. Gits manga is closer to the movie, not the anime series and it's well worth a read, regardless of seeing the anime.

The GiTS manga is pretty different from the anime, as is Appleseed but the feel is till there. Dominion Tank Police is my favourite it is so funny and in some ways better than the anime. Orion is pretty funny mixing Sci-Fi and Japanese Gods, and at 1 volume not too expensive.

As as as I remember, the manga and the first movie are pretty close to each other with a few differences here and there.
The manga and the series are completely different though.
