Ghost in the Shell 25th Anniversary Blu-ray question

Hey guys,

Apologies if I'm posting on the wrong section but I had a question regarding the new release of the original Ghost in the Shell movie on Blu-ray.

Manga has released it as 'Limited Edition' Steelbook with a collector's book. I'm a huge fan of the film, but I absolutely cannot stand Steelbooks. I used to be a huge collector of them a few years back, but these days, I avoid them like the plague.

Is there a way of obtaining the new Ghost in the Shell blu-ray in normal packaging? In the past, whenever Manga released Steelbooks, they always offered the standard editions for those who weren't keen on Steelbooks (Akira, Ninja Scroll to name a couple...)

Thank you in advance! :)

As it stands MangaUK only released a 'Steelbook' version of the film in the UK, which is also limited to 6,000 units.

The US release, which is supposedly identical in terms of quality and content as they used the same disc masters as the UK, is available in a standard Blu-ray case but I think it will be region locked (i.e. will only work on American blu-ray players)

I'm not convinced it would be. I'm pretty sure Manga's releases of 2.0 and Innocence are region free, so they may have just authored one disc for both territories.

True; guess one way to check would be to see if the UK disc would work on a US Blu-ray player/drive - would do it myself but I don't have it.

I'm sure I remember it being confirmed that the UK disc does work on US players, I don't think anyone has actually tried the discs being sold in the US but AFAIK they are identical.

Are there really only 6000 copies available? How long do you think it will remain available?

I remember Jerome during the Manchester MCM Panel say that it was going to be a 'very limited run' with only 6,000 copies being made after this no-more will be made; but this is in relation to the steelbook version.

They will remain available if copies still exisit, but once stock runs low you can expect prices to creap up slightly
