Getting Bored With Anime

i have to say this, and i dont like it.... but i really am getting bored with anime. i hate saying it but i am!
I keep starting to watch series after series but never finish them, its been literally years since an anime really struck me!

i miss the days when i would become so absored into a show/movie and it would leave me emotionally impacted, like evangelion, perfect blue, gunbuster even cowboy bebop to some extent ahh there just used to be so many titles that were close to my heart and i would spend far to much time trying to get my friends and family to feel the same way lol

i guess im just wondering can any recommend a definative title that will recindle my love for anime, something psycologically impacting, something that will attach me to the characters and put my faith back into the art form!

im really quite desperate lol i miss my love of the genre :(

i know the feeling i think i burnt my passion for anime out twice in my life.

i started to like anime originally around 94 when akira was on bbc2 and ch4 was showing late night anime. i collected loads of video then around 97/98 i started to get to go off it.
then around 2001/2 i finished uni and i started to get into anime again ,this time i would have alot more money and soon amased a large collection of anime dvds (around the 300-500 mark). the problem was i was buying more than i could watch and it started to change from fun to a chore to watch them. about 2006 i was totally burnt out with watching to much anime and i stop watching it for almost a year , only recently have i started to get back into it.

so my advise to you is to really slow down and start enjoying watching series at a slow pace .
cutting back on all the average series to only watch the highly rated animes in the genres you like. maybe take a time out and have a few weeks/months rests between series , after a while your interest should go back up.

hope that helps.

I think this is a pretty common thing.

If you're getting bored with it, do something else. Varied though anime is, if you watch so much of it, chances are you'll get a little bored eventually, just like with anything else. Everything in moderation, and all that. Besides, anime'll still be around to watch if you feel like it.

thats not my problem, i dont over watch anime at all i dont have enough time on my hands lol

ide maybe sit down and try and start a new 1 maybe once a week or every 2, just nothing is making me feel it!

I sometimes go through this a sort of lull, where I will be sat down with plenty of anime to watch and just feel like I can't be bothered to watch it and would rather be watching some tv series like Bones or NCIS.

But the feeling passes after I start watching what i have. And as for giving up on series this happens to me all the time, its usually because the series is just slow or overly repetative and has lost its appeal to me, but more often than not I find something to replace it that keeps me holding on til the very end.

i REALLY dont need a break.. i dont watch enough anime to need a break, honest

i just need a really powerfull series to recindle my interest

but thanks for all the advice

Have you seen Claymore, or even Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal (OAV)? Claymore needs a 2nd series but that won't be anytime in the forseable future as it already over taken the manga.
You want to get some good short OAVs on the go. So as your not sitting threw 26 - 50 episodes a series.
Watch Trust and Betrayal Skikes, theres more I could suggest but thats nice and short. Plus it draws you in. Try it ^_^

They sort of ruined the ending, so it really doesn't, and yes, I am getting bored of anime too, I still buy it on DVD and I have DVDs piling up going un-watched, I'm not very compelled to burn through them, so I don't really care for anime much these days, there is too much **** being released these days so there's hardly anything good to watch. I usually stick to 1/2 anime a season and even then I don't finish them, though I still watch from time to time, my expecations are too high, so there is nothing to thrill or wow me anymore. I wish I was the idiotic dumb Bleach fan I was 2 years ago and wishing I was just coming across some of the stuff that's out now. I would love that, I would watch so much and be amazed. [Though if I liked Lucky Star I'd have to top myself. >_>]

It's been the same for me too, there were a few awesome series' last season - Gurren Lagann, Claymore, Bokurano, Denno Coil, Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei and Baccano just to name a few, but for the most part I can hardly be arsed anymore.

How about some high quality shows/movies based on the list you posted? Similar creators etc...

If you liked Perfect Blue, I'd recommend Paprika or Paranoia Agent. In particular if you can get the blu-ray of Paprika you're in for an aural and visual treat.

Death Note is making its way to DVD and that's quite addictive too. I haven't seen the anime yet (just the movies and manga) but really enjoyed it. It's shounen jump fare so moreish and consistent, but it's a lot darker than the usual shounen series.

I'm actually really liking Fullmetal Alchemist at the moment but I'm probably the only person in the world who hadn't already seen it...

i started watching the anime of death note and it was very good... but i just didnt like the characters, so i didnt care to finish it...

what am saying is... i want a complete psychological **** up!
i want TO love the characters and be hurt when **** starts happening, like in eva and perfect blue... i dont care for shows like full alchemist, if the animation is crap/childish i just cant get into it...

i dont think im gonna get the answer im looking for... thanks all

Psychological. . .?

The first thing that popped into ma head is Monster, You might like it actually. 70 something episodes though.

Also, As someone previously said, Check out some of Kon's other works apart from Perfect Blue- Paranoia Agent, Paprika etc. You'll probably like them as well.

Yeah, because I mean an anime based on science and has many deaths and has a pretty advanced and gripping plotline is crap and childish, RIGHT!?

Pretty sure he was explicitly referring to the artwork - regardless of how good it may be, it's certainly very "anime-style"* compared to shows like Paprika or Monster.

*Don't ask me exactly what I mean by anime style. You know.

I think big eyes and cute-looking characters put him off. Which would have been nice to know in the original post, but since he ignored Paprika/PA entirely in my suggestion and just made strange dismissals of the others I think helping him is more trouble than it's worth.

Suggestions of shows which don't look pretty pretty and have lots of bad stuff happening to likeable people, maybe?

Berserk?
NTHT would be a good one only I think the character designs would stress him out.

If Death Note doesn't make you love anime again then there isn't much chance of anything else moving you.

Here's a list of some of my must watch anime:

.hack//SIGN - A love or hate series - Some don't mind the slow pacing, others fall asleep. I'm in the love section.
Chrno Crusade - A very enjoyable series. There are a few pacing problems that are caused by the anime diverging from the manga, but the ending made up for any issues.
Code Geass - An awesome series with similarities to Death Note, the most notable being the main character. I can't wait for the 2nd season.
Get Backers - A shounen very much in the shadow of Naruto and Bleach. A must watch for fans of the shounen genre.
Grave of the Fireflies - An anime based on true events, which is a nice change.
Gungrave - The title and first episode are very misleading; Gungrave is a story about two best friends who end up believing one has betrayed the other. Fans of gangster movies would love this.
Princess Mononoke - Just about perfect.
Samurai X: Trust, Betrayal and Reflections - The adult prequel to the childish Rurouni Kenshin, these OVA's are truly beautiful and tragic.
Scrapped Princess - I'm re-watching this right now due to my R1 DVD's arriving the other day. One of the most enjoyable series to watch, never making me bored.
Wolf's Rain - The only flaw this series has is the weak lead. That aside, it's understandable why many view at as the best.

I've been going through a similar stage to you with anime lately. I picked up Claymore, DtB , Devil May Cry and RxJ just after all 3 started, ending up dropping all but the hugely disappointing Claymore. I just don't have the same drive I used to that made me keep watching no matter what.

I used to love RPG's when I was younger, playing my favourites over and over, but I lost interest after so many years - Nothing moved me like it used to in my PS1 RPG days. I think I'm going through the same thing with anime.

The problem anime fans run into is that they watch all the good stuff straight after they get into it. When you see the best straight away your standards are always going to be pretty damn high, stopping you enjoying lesser shows because you've seen much better.
