today's genres is the *scariest* anime you ever saw

what was the scariest anime you ever saw.
can be from psycho drama to murder to ghost storys to shocking thrillers
me, i watched ghost hunt and it had its funny moments but for the first time watching it (in the dark) it was scary. it was like most hunted meets anime and i loved it.

il ask again what genres to ask about next after i get a response.

ok we have for scariest
1 monster
1 ghost hunt
2 Paranoia Agent- this anime does have its moments
3 Higurashi
1 Elfen Lied- not scary but intense and shocking
1Shiki
1Okamikakushi

I,d have to say Monster i wouldnt really say it scared me but there are certain scenes especially with Johan that sent serious shivers up my spine, one of the most chilling anime/manga characters ever.

Anime doesn't do "scary" very well but Higurashi has more arse-clenching tension than anything else I've seen. Especially the first arc.

Paranoia Agent is unsettling at times as well.

I'll have to disagree with you on Higurashi, it was good show, but it's not tense at all.

If we were to change this to "unsettling" or "disturbing", then I think I would say Higurashi and Elfen Lied, but it depends on what we define "scary" as, I'm assuming shocks here for some reason.

You didn't find even that first arc of S1 even remotely tense? I genuinely felt the main character's paranoia.

Horror is a lot like comedy in that our responses to it are highly subjective, but even so...

I could see his paranoia, but I couldn't feel it, *slightly off topic* I can't remember if I watched Higurashi before or after I watched Alien and that could be why I didn't feel anything, because that movie is the epitome of paranoia and tension in my opinion, I used to play quite a lot of Zombie Panic as well which, is very intense given the right factors.

My overall point is that when you're subjected to something, and then subjected to something stronger, the former thing doesn't have much of an effect.

I pretty much universally hate westerns (Bebop is the only one of those I found watchable) so this will be useful for me as a "do not watch these shows" list :D

Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw Star are the only Westerns I've watched, unless you count Desert Punk and Black Lagoon, they had a Western vibe at times
