Although this weekend's "Japan Expo" carried some <a href="http://www.animeuknews.net/news/1452/manga-ent-to-release-bleach-on-uk-dvd;-starting-late-2007">big news for the UK industry</a>, it was also an exciting time for US fans too, as one of their biggest conventions - Otakon - went down over the last few days, bringing with it several new anime licenses.
<ul>
<li>Bandai Entertainment have arguably stolen the show with several big name acquisitions. Leading their list was the "sensationalist action thriller" Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, but they also announced Toward the Terra (2007 TV series), Ayakashi Ayashi and My-Otome Zwei.</li>
<li>FUNimation finally confirmed that they have picked up the much-adored shojo comedy Ouran High School Host Club as well as the Tenchi Muyo! spin-off "Sasami: Magical Girl Club" and "BALDR FORCE EXE Resolution".</li>
<li>Lastly, ADV Films announced their licensing of "King of Bandit Jing in Seventh Heaven" (OVA series), sci-fi drama Moonlight Mile and yuri-horror Venus Versus Virus.</li>
</ul>
Of course, given Bandai Entertainment (Beez), FUNimation (Revelation Films) and ADV Films (themselves) release a lot of their anime in the UK, it's worth marking out all of these new licenses for potential UK DVD releases in the future.

Toward the Terra is the only title in there which I’ve seen apart from the first episode of Ouran High School Host Club which didn't leave a great impression on me. pity that one was Bandai. Not that I have anything agenised Bandai its just only they're most popular titles make it here. And even so it can take a very very very long time..... Cowboy Bebop anybody?

Code Geass is like the Michael Bay of anime, so while I enjoy it, I don't take it as seriously as something like Planetes or Infinite Ryvius (I mentioned all three because they are all from the same director etc).

Also, Toward the Terra is really underrated due to its 80s aesthetic, however, so far it's been a very interesting and rather twisty space opera with some fun leaps in time i.e. the characters start out as kids but literally grow up through the episodes. It's nice to see a well written, straight forward sci-fi series that takes itself seriously instead of relenting to typical anime cliche (there is no mecha, no loli characters, no real archetypes to mention).

Finally, I'm somewhat interested in Ouran High School Host Club. It looks like fun, it's just that the crazy shonen-ai fanbase scares me away.

BALDR FORCE was a bit crap when I watched the fansub back when it aired in Japan, they didn't seem to mix the VG and animation very well and strikes me as a series which is kinda fans of the games only.

Ouran is fantastic! We where lucky enough to have a GONZO representative with us at a BAC meet when we first started showing it. At the time it was a gamble for us, after it ended he turned to us and went "That was brilliant." Its a cross between shoujo and shounen-ai but its cute and I like shujo and cute :D

Code Geass is one of my fav animes I've watched and it is a heavy weight of this year, but it does have it's flaws. One of the plot twists seemed like it was thought in a meeting of exec's wondering how to drastically change the plot of the story for a continuation. You can't miss it, it really is a "wtf" moment.

Mai-Otome Zwei is a very predictable series and it's something for the fans of the original series really, the fight scenes are pretty but the characters don't appeal to me.

I'm glad Code Geass finally got licensed in the US, definitely one of my more favourite series of this year that i have seen. Ouran High School Host Club interests me too, though i'm not to sure about getting it.

Great news about Ouran, i was very sceptical to begin with coming from "series" anime such as GITS and Lain but the series just blew me away with its totally random, high paced humour.

I for one am certainly curious about what an English dubbed Ouran might sound like. I haven't seen the anime but I'm currently following the manga and it's a very funny series. Frivolous, silly but highly entertaining!

Tokyopop noted that they're trying to get the rights to the Reprints of the Sailor Moon manga.

Glad to see Toei's retardation hasn't completely killed intrest in one of thier things they totaly shanghied

Can't say that there's anything there that really interests me.
Same, except maybe Geass, since everyone blows it out of proportion on how good it is.

Have you not seen Code Geass? It's totally overrated, and is constantly compared to Death Note due to the similarities between Light and Lelouch, and the Death Note and the Geass.
