Death Scythe
Just thought I'd pop in for a look around.. and I thought I'd bring you all some good news..
I've been looking around play.com because of Gawyn's comment saying that there's going to be a FMA starter pack (containing volumes 1-4 in a tin).
I think you can guess what I found on play.com... but with a little something extra!

Rev Films seem to be doing a much better job than MVM ever did. Props to them.

Indeed.

I wonder what Rev Films are doing differently to MVM, I'm guessing either MVM didn't want to let Funimation control the products they were sub-licensing to MVM as much as Funi wanted to or maybe MVM were just too slow? Does anyone know what the problem was?

No, it's nothing to do with MVM being all evil. I suppose Revelation are a new company with big ideas yet to be clipped by the relative size of the UK industry. Wait until they release 1000 of these boxsets and get 900 unsold copies sent back to them. If they are still releasing all of these "starter sets" and special editions this time next year I'll be mighty surprised, so make the most of all this while you can guys.

Difference being, Paul, were MVM ever consistant in their quality or release shedules? No, never really. So far Rev Films have been both since the beginning and I just hope they keep to the quality they have had so far.

I still think the reason why MVM fell short and continues to is that they tried to bite of more than they could chew releasing everything they could before finishing previously running series ended. The wavering quality of the products was obvious as well as the incosistant release shedules and constant delays.

The only reason MVM suffered from delays was because half of their stock was burned to the ground in a fire. And that was in 2005, let it go. Before and since, they've been perfectly fine with their release schedules. If you want an example of fluid release dates, look no further than Beez. Trust me, I've maintained the release schedule here since 2003 and Beez are the only publisher I consider slightly unreliable. And I couldn't care less about delays, they still released Gungrave and Texhnolyze over here and that's better than nothing.

Also, I've never had any problems with their releases but then I admit I'm hardly specific about this stuff. Their picture quality is in line with the other publishers, but I seem to remember you complaining about their cover art print quality; again, I don't have any problem myself.

I just wish people would drop their agendas, especially against a smaller indie company like MVM; they are probably the only true UK distributor in the sense that aren't directly supported by a global player like ADV, Manga or Beez.

They also took more than a year to recover from that and that's most likely because even though the fire put them back they continued to start releasing new series putting others on hold even if they were only a couple of volumes from the end. They are improving recently though like I said in a recent post with the boxset releases.

Beez are probably worse but I wasn't following any of their series at the time so I don't have as much beef with them.

Another thing about MVM was I didn't like their attitude when I sent them an extremely polite email about the Haibane Renmei delays. The reply I got just seemed rather rude and told me nothing, at least Managa have gotten into the act of sending polite informative responses. It's not like I said "Hurry up or i'm going to import and not waste my time with your inferior products" or something.

My experience with MVM has been top notch. They have brought out everything i've wanted and everything is of high quality, hell they even sent me a free dvd box when my one broke. Can't get any better than that.

It says that on Anime Online. £50 for the tin, I won't be buying it.

This?

Looks to me like this is MVM just trying to get rid of old stock. They gave away that tin with volume 6 or 7 (or something) a while back. It's probably unrelated to the Revelation set listed on Play. Plus, it's in stock right now on Anime-On-Line, and isn't even properely announced on Play.

I thought that at the new year they were meant to pull all their FUNimation series. Are they even allowed to sell them anymore?

I suppose they're just clearing out.

But it definately says it's published by MVM.

Regardless, don't expect an awesome collector's edition box set if you buy that, expect four single DVDs put into leftover tins, which MVM got from Funi, by hand.

My mistake then, at £50 a pop that'd make FMA an expensive series to get anyway, I didn't like it that much but if they release a really top notch box set I might end up buying it.

nice to see that Rev films or MVM (got confused with the comments above lol) at least trying to do something cool for the FMA fans here. I mean, almost every major country has gotten the Awsome treatment with this series.
Lets just hope that it isnt any cheap left-overs......

(i'm just happy i already got all the Tins & OST's from importing, cos i had a feeling that the UK wouldnt get them....)
