Full Metal Panic The Second Raid Bluray competition

Spotted this yesterday. FMP: TSR is one of my fave anime series, though sadly I don't possess a blu-ray player yet.

A shame since I bet it looks fantastic in hi-def.

I really do want the Blu Ray release, though I think it's locked to Region A.

Don't think it will work on my Euro PS3? if someone can confirm please do.

Edit: Just seen the above post, ah well.

Well, it MIGHT be region-free, I will keep an eye on it. It is HIGHLY unlikely though, due to the ONLY (having fun with caps today :D ) blu-ray release from Funimation to be region-free was their first one, the DBZ Broly double feature. As far as I know all blu-ray releases from them since then have been locked to region A. Which sucks.

Just to get a little false hope going. :p

Why can't we have nice things?
The Japanese-American conspiracy to bleed Europe for all it's got. ;)

Seriously though, given how business-savvy the Japanese companies usually are, could they have made a worse decision from a region locking POV to make Japan and the US the same Blu-ray region? The pricing structure, from highest to lowest, goes Japan > UK > US. Won't this just make tons more Japanese fans import from the US and destroy their home market?

Japanese FMP:TSR box: $300
American FMP:TSR box: $100 ($56 from Amazon US)

Now I don't mind paying a little more for a nicer UK edition, but in that case I know which I would pick.

TSR never got released over here did it?

Nope, I think it had something to do with the rights changing hands from ADV to Funimation and the resulting complications involved. I'm still waiting on an R2 release but frankly it seems unlikely in near future (if ever).

I don't get why they would even have different regions for the US and UK. Surely they'd make more money by making it region free.

I even question the usefulness of region lock for DVDs still.

Japanese industries are allegedly highly concerned about the risks of reverse importation, even when DVD regions would conventionally prevent them.
Maybe they have good reason to adopt this stance, but since I've been told the Japanese DVD industry targets collectors over casual consumers, the amount by which cheap US releases undercut the Japanese market may be low.

That was my understanding too. I'm surprised Manga haven't snapped it up given how popular the show is over here. Perhaps they just didn't want to help ADV/Lace shift the first two series by releasing the sequel (or risk being stuck if the first sets went out of print)?

I suppose if ADV or whoever has their licenses here ever starts actively participating in the scene again or dies completely we may see some movement on TSR.

I'd consider myself more of a collector than a casual consumer, but when the Japanese version is almost six times the price? I think I'd be willing to forego any collectibles for that kind of discount. Must be some hardcore Otaku out there...
