Dear Xbox LIVE Members:

During this past holiday season you helped us break a number of Xbox LIVE records. This included our largest sign-up of new members to Xbox LIVE in our 5 year history and just yesterday you broke the record for the single biggest day of concurrent members ever on the service.

As a result of this massive increase in usage we know that some of you experienced intermittent Xbox LIVE issues over the holiday break. While the service was not completely offline at any given time, we are disappointed in our performance. I would like to take this moment to thank you each and every one of you for your patience and understanding as our team has worked around the clock to return the service to a stable state.

At the same time we would like to offer a token of our appreciation to all of you in celebration of record success for the service. And as a thank you for your loyalty during this holiday period, we will be offering all of our Xbox LIVE members around the world access to a full Xbox LIVE Arcade game that will be available to download free of charge. In the coming weeks we will be sharing the specific details of this offer with you.

Thank you again for helping make Xbox LIVE everything that it is today!

Sincerely,

Marc Whitten

That's right people, Microsoft wants to thank us for staying loyal. They're glad we didn't move to PlayStation Network while their service was being stupidly annoying, and to thank us they want to give us a free XBLA game. Normally I'd be happy, but why do I get the feeling it's going to be one I'm not interested in? I'm crossing my fingers that Omega Five turns out to be the free game, but I doubt it. Anyway, this letter was posted on Major Nelson's blog for those who want to know the source.

SWOS is dire...sure it's great for nostalgia and all, but it really sucks. =/

I'm guessing some tripe like Joust....it's got to be something I either already own or would just never want. :)

But either way, I could still play Smackdown and PES, so it's not as if I've been deprived of my Live. And a free game's a free game.

Unless I've already got it, then it's cruel. Maybe they could bless us with Aegis Wing *overt optimism alert!*

Lmao i gotta agree with Eggybob on this one mate.
I didn't play SWOS but sensible soccer for the mega drive was/is amazing i still play it now. Custom team mode was amazing and me and my friends still have our teams from back then which we created and now have them on pro evo. Legend of a game

I've never looked at the arcade for some reason so I have no idea whats on there although Sensible Soccer was great back in the day! I hope you just get one of your own choice - now that would be a good offer

Finally got my 360 back today :D
Downloaded the SWOS demo and i'm apalled by it!
I bummed Sensi for the mega drive but this version has one button for pass, shoot and tackle. The mega drive had one button for shooting and another for kick (pass) and tackle. Gutted, proper ruins the flow of gameplay and skill that was in the original version :(

For those who have already purchased Undertow, don’t despair. John Porcaro, Microsoft’s Group Manager and Online Marketing Communications man, says that Xbox Support are ready and waiting for your calls, suggesting you might get re-reimbursed the 800 Points you already spent.

I'm looking forward to this crashing XBL again, or MS ballsing something up at least. They couldn't even manage to give people 300 in HD for 100 MSP, so what's gonna happen when they actually give people something FREE?
