Hi everyone,

Some people will scold me for this but ive just finshed watching it and tbh, i didnt find it that amazing.. many people have reckomended it to me, but i found it to be a weak mecha anime.

I enjoyed evangelion more.

The story is good and top point for the animaton itself.

Though, i say i didnt enjoy it,i'm still going to watch the spin off and the second raid.

let the scolding begin!
:D

EDIT: very sorry, just scrolled down this forum to notice an old post on FMP, sorry for creating more then one!

Right, we're all open to our own views in the end. Compared to TSR, the first series does feel like its lacking, but its still got some strong points.

FUMOFFU, or as you call it the spin off is not a spin-off at all, it is in fact all canon. the series is based off the short-story novels that Shouji Gatou wrote for the series, each of which show the different events which happen outside the main story. In terms of timeline, FUMOFFU takes place between the first arc and the last arc(in normal terms, thats between after the plane hijacking and before kaname goes to the TDD-1). There is tonnes of other short stories which could be animated, not all of which are comedy though, but there we go.

when watching FMP!, it's best to be thought of as a whole rather than just the first season. Not that there is anything wrong with the first season as i enjoyed it a lot, although saying that i am a fan. But what i mean is, that the characters develop more throughout each season and the story benefits from this greatly, especially sousuke and kaname's realtionship.

So hang in there and once you watch through both fumoffu and TSR, i'm sure your oppinion may change.
:)

I can see where you're coming from; FMP! in it's entirety is my fave series of all time, but even I'll admit the first season is heavily flawed.

Still, it's worth continuing even if you weren't wowed by it. FUMOFFU is a lot funnier and The Second Raid is absolutely excellent - the weaker aspects die out and the stronger ones become more prominent.

Bare with it, it will be worth your while.

I'm raging too much to give a good rebuttal.

Edit: Ok, I've calmed down.

The beauty of FMP is that you don't have to like mecha to like it. You can also watch for the sci-fi, action, romantic comedy, highschool comedy, drama, action comedy, romantic drama, etc.

That's also the reason the original FMP series failed; it didn't focus on anything, instead mixing together average-good comedy and mecha and ending up making it an enjoyable yet heavily flawed series.

Fumoffu and TSR are better than the original series because they don't try to blend together completely different genres, instead focusing everything on one.

It still did everything it did well, so I see no problem, even though I can see where you're coming from.

Personally, I found the mecha (serious business) side to be very weak in the original series. The stories were rather poor and the baddy simply kept coming back to life after being killed - None of it gripped me.

I also found the school comedy side to be rather weak compared to Fumoffu. Some of it was funny but most of it was only decent/watchable.

I've read the manga and I've seen Fummofu, so I can't really comment on the original series. For some reason, FMP is one of the epic, high rated series that I keep postponing to get for no apparent reason.

I'll set a personal goal to get FMP before Christmas this year.

Well yeah, in comparison they were weak, but they were still decently done in the grand scheme of things. I do agree the story was weaker, but this was due to Gonzo trying to fit 3 novels, plus extra material, into one series.

I've always found FMP rather average overall. My RL friends really love it and made me watch it - it wasn't unenjoyable, but I'm not in any rush for more either. I suspect the original stories would correct some of what I was left cold by in the animated version but am not in a great rush to check them out.

I don't like the main characters which doesn't help, though I do like Kurz, Melissa and co. I find apathy towards the stars, even if a series is otherwise great, can turn me off watching sometimes. I don't really know what it is. FMP just doesn't quite click with me yet. I can see why people with slightly different taste to me would love it though. It's good at what it does, only what it does isn't what I'm personally after!

FMP did very little for me - I found it disjointed and rather poorly animated in places (hello Gonzo!) - but Fumoffu is an absolute blast. I have TSR in my backlog and hope that Kyoto animation were able better job than Gonzo with the show's serious side.

You're the first person I've heard of that attack the quality of the animation from Gonzo, after all, they are known for looks over substance...

I did like most of the Gonzo stuff I've seen so far, but I do agree that more than often, their shows lacks in story.

I don't get what's so bad about the animation in FMP. After watching it a few times, it still looks pretty good. It's sure as hell better than most other things they've done, like Hellsing and Chrno Crusade.

Can't say i found a problem with the animation overall when i watched it, it was fine throughout.

As much as i always defend the series, i will say that in comparison to the novels, it does lack a fair bit(Ok TSR did a darn good job off keeping to them..bar of course for that one BIG difference). The novels themselves have a lot more in them despite being fairly small in size. I do wish though that Tokyopop would say whether or not they plan to release the side-story novels as well, as they have a lot of good moments too, not to mention the fact thats all FUMOFFU was based off of. I still kinda wish for another series to start up soon, but the soonest we would actually be able to see it come up is when the last novel is released next year, so at the earliest winter next year, its kinda annoying, specially when we've been waiting for a good while for one anyway.
