FLCL-Peoples thoughts

Vampire Ninja
Just the other day me and me m8 were at hmv buying DVDs. i looked at the anime selection and saw the FLCL collection. So out of randomness i bought it. Now ive heard alot about this show, ive heard how random and weird it is. Most people like it but i have heard people say they didnt like it so i dont know what to expect from this.

So, Do you like the show?

I love the show, one of my all time faves, but and this is a big the series is defenetlily not for everyone, its fast pace, total random plot and obscure style of animation do put alot of people off but stick with it and re-watch it,it does require repeated viewing to fully appreciate what is going on and beneath all the maddness you will find a very deep and sometimes moving series, but watch it make up your own mind,i,m sure there will be just as much peope on this thread who will hate the show with a passion, its a love-hate thing when it comes to FLCL.

FLCL is great fun! Don't expect much character development, there's no time for that. Instead you get thrown head first into a world of flying robots, alien girls and a man with eyebrows that resemble childrens paper cut-outs.

The animation is terrific, the script amusing, and the plot.. well there's one there, you just have to try not to lose your brain and leave you with an empty head like Nao-kun.

Almost certainly the most mental anime I've ever seen, though in the most enjoyable sense.

Back when I watched the first few episodes I couldn't make up my mind whether I loved or hated it, before finally realising I was over thinking the whole thing and just settled down to enjoy what I was seeing. I'm still not sure to this day whether I really buy into the plot underneath it all (to say nothing of completely understanding it), but at the very least as an exercise in pure bonkers animation it doesn't fail to entertain.

Like everyone else is saying though, it's likely you'll love or hate it for that. Basically, anime marmite.

Indeed. I read that it is filled with poignancy and metaphor, though one failed to gain an acute awareness of most of its less superficial narrative aspects. One can still enjoy the music and animation without toil, however.

Gave it a 5/10 when I watched it back in 06'.... 5 = Not so hot in my books. If I recall, the end wasn't bad, but the rest was too random for me.

I really really like it and never fully understand people thinking its incredibly random, I mean, it is, but it all comes from a good and interesting place with some level of continuity and world-building so I thought it all... worked. I found it all easy to accept, with a killer soundtrack to boot.

...Though it has been a while since I properly sat down to watch it.
