Early footage for Hayao Miyazaki's latest movie, Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea, has been unofficially leaked online via the video-streaming website Daily Motion. The video shown has been cut from a recent Japanese TV talk-show and therefore, might be removed at any moment, however, for the time being, it offers internationally-based anime fans their first glimpses of the highly-anticipated movie.

Studio Ghibli's Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea will be released in Japan on July 19, 2008.

See it while you can guys:

Looks like it could be potentially awesome. I hope it's better that Tales From Earthsea. Wasn't as good as I was expecting. Good film but was waiting way too long to watch it and hopes got too high.

Thanks for the preview Paul. Will be looking forward to . :D :D

Watched it silently at work - reminds me a lot of the film Mizugumo Monmon they show at the museum with the water. Might see it this summer if we have free time; if not I'm sure my partner will grab the DVD in due course.

Though as the only Ghibli films I really liked were Howl and Earthsea (yep...) I'm not expecting my taste to be of great concern to anyone else.

Looks like it's going to have a Totoro feel to it, which is no bad thing of course, but suggests it will sit more at the kiddie end of the Ghibli scale.

I just realised I can import it from Japan as soon as it's released, because Ghibli films have English subtitles. Awesome.

That's true, but it's costly. I considered doing this with "I Can Hear The Sea", but Optimum are going to bring it out here after all so I'm happy to wait. I've put off ordering the 2nd YKK OVA's because they run to £30 each. A pound a minute is a little costly for entertainment. And then you have to factor in the thieving Customs & Excise and Royal Mail.

The latter you can control by ordering from somewhere like Yesasia which takes care of the import so no customs fees. The former you cannot :( though the yen rate is improving from our perspective so hopefully this summer prices will be slightly better on importing. I'm watching it like a hawk because I have to buy soon but it's sliding to better values every day.

The Ponyo on a Cliff by the Sea Leaked Footage Drinking Game: Take a shot every time an annoying Japanese presenter exclaims "Kawaii desu-ne!"

That's cuteness in the extreme! I was secretly hoping for a return to his more 'grown up' Mononoke Hime or Porco Rosso style stuff but I'll settle for a Totoro/Jellyfish combo.

At the very least it'll be harmless feelgood fare that'll bring out our inner child!

Looks cute!
But is it just because I didn't have my sound on, or did a couple of the scenes get repeated? Hmmm...

Yeah they repeated part of it twice, as they were talking about it, looks good though, :)

It does look good. I like the setting already!!
Very much looking forward to its DVD...should be a definate import for me.
