please be aware that this is a very, very early draft of the introduction
This is a book about a country
A country that is the the far east of asia, is eight hours ahead of us and around 12 hours flight time from the UK. (if i got this wrong please correct me)
So, why take all the time and effort to write a entire book about this country?
This question can be answered in 3 easy to explain points:
1) Cool, exploding robot anime
2) Ninjas
3) Pocky
(at the bottom of the page i have written; to the less cultured readers, Pocky is a popular Japanese snack with buiscuit like fingers dipped in a kind of topping. This has gained so popular with Otaku's there are hundreds of online quizzes telling you what flavour best suits your personality; i'm chocolate-bannana, yum!)
In case you havent guessed (or you were too lazy to read the front cover) this book is about the 'land of the rising sun' namely Japan! I will try and do my best to make this easy to read for both Otaku's (more on those guys later, if you have yet to know what a Otaku is) and also for someone who is as interested in Japan as i am intrested in the great swordpine snook of Jamaica.
So, as i sit here, realising that this introduction is going to be longer than i first imagined it to be. I've just realised I havent yet explained to those readers some cruicial words i am going to be using throughout the bok. If you do not know what these words mean you will be as lost as my brother was when i tried to explain The Matrix to him:
Matt: Ok, so do you finally get it all now we have seen all 3 movies and you've read that theological essay on the philosophy on Neo's redemption?
Brother: So, which one was Morpheus again?
So, here is a little glossary i made for those not as 'in the know' as some people are:
(anyone who thinks these definitions are a little off please tell me)
Otaku- A 'otaku' is basically a japanese form of geek obsessed with anything to do with Japan. Many Otaku's have large collections of toys and models from Japan and worship the virgin mary of the Otaku 'religion' who is, of course, Rei Ayanami ^-^
Anime- Anime is a form of animation made in Japan. Many Otaku's regard anime as a art form (or, as my dad affectionatley puts it, 'weird Chinese Pokymon crap')
Manga- Manga is a style of art originating form Japan many Animes (Btw, what is the plural of the infinitive 'anime'?) begin life as a manga comic before being translated to a animated TV show.
Kanji- A Japanese writing system mostly used for nouns with symbols stolen form the chinese (i.e 'tree', 'meat' or 'horse' would be written in Kanji
Hiragana- another writing system used to connective etc.
Katankana- Yet another writing system (and arguably the easiest to learn) which is used for words from other countries which dont have kanji (i.e western names such as 'John' 'Mary' or 'Peter' as well as words like 'table' or 'candy' would be in Katakana)
And, so we begin
