Falling asleep whilst reading manga.

I like to lie on my bed at night, with my small lamp that's sat on the back of my bed providing the light required to read. It's become a bit of a habit for me, actually - I try to do it every night before going to sleep. it's almost as routine as leaving a box of kleenex next to my PC.

The problem with this is that reading always speeds up the sleep process with me. I keep trying to ignore my growing tiredness, shaking my head and blinking a few times in an effort to stay awake, but I always lose in the end. When I reach my limit, I put the book on the bed, take off my glasses (depending on how tired I am) and fall to sleep within seconds. Then, when I wake up the next morning, I tend to find my poor volume of manga down the side of the bed, it having fallen as a result of me tossing and turning during my sleep. I then cry when I see the damage to the book.

Anyone else guilty of this violation of manga crime?

I find it hard to sleep with any light so fortunately this has never happened to me. I get drowsy sometimes when curled up reading but not so quickly that I can't put the book down safely and go to bed properly.

It has happened sometimes when I'm listening to music in bed though. Even with earphones; often uncomfortably embedded in my ear when I wake up.

I refuse to read manga before I go to sleep for the reasons you've said: the damage =P.

Normally I just reflect on my wonderful day before nodding off, but if I really can't drop off, Then I listen to a little music (I've fallen asleep listening to Slayer, Full blast. Dunno how, but damn, I done it O_o). Though I have fallen asleep through watching anime! Though that's less damage and less to worry about the following morning =D.

Why not put the book on a bedside table or the floor? I Have to admit I don't know what it's like to fall asleep that quickly like that though. I read in bed if I'm not tired, then when I start feeling tired I put my book down on the floor and go to sleep.

I usually have a feeling in advance if I'm dropping off, so there's always time to place the manga somewhere safe. I'm generally a light sleeper anyhow so it's rarely been a problem. I often have a coffee while I'm reading too, so it spares me such a situation.

Unfortunatly, the moment I move to put the manga down, it's harder for me to get to sleep when I move back. Weird, I know =|

Never happened to me because of the way I sit firmly upright in my bed when I'm reading (I put a extra big cushion against the wall so I can sit up), this technique hasn't failed me yet!

I hate falling asleep while reading my manga as it means that when i wake up the book will either be on the floor or will get damaged as i move around in my sleep, which is definately a crime against manga

Yep, that's what my Haruhi pillow is for! :D It basically helps my back not bend back against the wall and a low metal bed-rest.

I read at any time I feel bored. The times that I read at night, I've never felt tierd reading manga, but it keeps me up long enough to make my body-clock want to say "time to get your head down."
I guess when I read and look at the art inside, it keeps my mind active in the slightest way. Probably the same with you lot, but since you're already tierd, you start falling asleep from the mental activity.

My books are usually fine because I have a bookcase right next to the bed. I just plonk it into a spare spot and then it's safe.

I've never fallen asleep with a manga in hand (touch wood) but I have fallen asleep with a laptop resting on me watching anime in bed. Now that's an accident waiting to happen. Luckily I tend to role towards the misses so the lap top falls in to a secure place. I dread the day I wake up to a crunch of it hitting the floor. O_o' - I'd be as good as dead.

Maybe I'm misinterprating this, but are you saying your other half is busty and, when needed, her bust saves your laptop from smashing?

I'm restricting myself from reading when I'm tired - it's just too risky. I wish I was like other people, people who find that reading keeps them awake...

Great, now my mind is full of comedy situations involving poor Voddas' other half and his laptop. Thanks a lot :P

I believe he meant it just didn't fall on the floor; coming to a rest safely in the middle of the bed.

I don't think i've ever fallen asleep whilst reading manga or anything for that matter. It can make me sleepy, but thats usually one of the reasons i like to read before i go to bed. I've never been good at getting to sleep, so reading usually helps that. i don't sleep with the light on anyway so i usually have to turn it off before hand.

sadly i've fallen asleep whilst watching bleach on my laptop....and woke up in the night to hear a loud thud and looking down i find the laptop on the floor...the few times i've found myself on the floor and the laptop on my bed.....*coughs* moving on.....Many a time have i fallen asleep whilst reading manga. and more often than not i wake up in the same possition (laid on my front. arms resting over the pillow holding the manga whilst chin is resting on the pillow), sometimes i've woken to find the beloved volume on the floor or retreating to the underneath my bed :(

slap the cuff's on me for my crimes :(

I don't read in bed I just can't get comfortable. I have however fallen asleep several times stretched out on the sofa reading comics (damn they can be fragile), never manga though. I used to fall asleep all the time when I was younger listening to my walkman, just to wake up to dead batteries and bits of headphones stuck in my face.

The only time I've fallen asleep reading manga was an all nighter plowing through volumes of Bleach. About 7 in the morning I fell asleep but woke up safely lying still on my back with it on top of me. Very lucky, I was.

Nah I just put it on the bedside table lol. But then I also have this weird thing where I have to unlock and lock my phones keypad 4 times, rub the screen clean and check the time 4 times before I can sleep, so I couldnt fall asleep reading it.

(No really its true, I cant sleep unless I've done that lol)
