Evangelion question

sanji no 1

Vampire Ninja
Just recently i bought Evangelion 1.11 - You Are (Not) Alone. I bought it from HMV so i got a HMV exclusive disc which concludes the 1.01 version. now what i want to know is which one should i watch? The 1.11 version or the 1.01 version. if someone could tell me that would be great.

Guess Manga had to get money off 1.01 somehow...

Watch 1.11 - It's just 1.01, with extra footage. Although after watching 1.11, I think "1.01 must have felt incomplete".

1.11 is like an improved version. I don't know if there was any added scenes, as I pay no attention to that, but the image quality is definitely better (I remember seeing a comparison).

iirc, there's an extra 10 minutes.

1.11 was "re-mastered" and has additional footage.

2.0 is the one to look forward to, though... Seriously, it brought my faith in the Eva series back.

Hang on, 1.11 is just a tarting up of 1.01 which in itself was just a condensed version of the original TV show?

I'm confused. :?

Kaede - yes, that about sums it all up.
You start to see differences once you reach 2.0, but there is almost nothing new from the TV series in 1.01.

Yes, I am looking forward to 2.02/2.22. I am a bit concerned with the fact that funi have yet to secure the license yet, which means any English dub is a very long way away =[

I'd have imported the german version if it had subs, and the hong kong blu-ray has subs but is region locked to A =[

Yeah, but I doubt Manga want to release a sub only version. Their twitter comments on sub only releases seem to show a negative stance towards it, so i'm assuming they're waiting on a funi dub.

I'm so tempted to import the Asian version. Thankfully having already seen it I can afford to be patient.

Actually, the only reason I haven't imported so far is that I want my spines to match on the shelf. Hurry up, licensing companies!

Just import 2.22 now, and grab the first one when you're in Japan, should be able to find it cheap enough to even justify a purchase purely to have matching spines. :D

Don't forget to save space for an umbrella. Chances of rain are non-negligible.

Just a little help guys, i've never watched the series, I bought Evangelion 1.11 - You Are (Not) Alone at the Expo and I still need to watch it.

However today I managed to get the old End of Evangelion and the Death and Rebirth movies for a cheap price.

Is there any sequence since i've only got those three DVD's?

Evangelion 1.11 (and the subsequent films, e.g. 2.2) are remakes of the series that change a lot of it, especially from 2.2 onwards.

(1) Death is a compilation films that mostly used footage from episodes 1 - 24 of the series
(2) Rebirth is 27 of new footage, but all of that is used in End of..., so don't bother watching Rebirth and move straight on to End of...
(3) End of Evangelion tells the story of the series (eps 25 & 26) finale from a "real-world" prospective, rather than the "metaphorical" version that the original finale episodes told.

And then after you've watched those, you can start watching 1.11 and the rest of the new films as they are released :)

I think that's pretty much the heads-and-tails of it.

They are separate entities.

Watch Death and Rebirth (Death is a rather confusing re-edit of the first 24 episodes of the series, given a widescreen sheen) Rebirth is the first half hour of the End of Evangelion movie (which was Hideaki Anno's remake of the final two episodes of the series after a major fan whinge. End of Evangelion is the second ending to the series. So you could watch these two and have a fair idea of what the series was about.

The new movies are a complete remake of the series up, with the first movie conforming pretty closely to the first six episodes, but the following movies diverging greatly.

You don't need Evangelion 1.11 to watch Death and Rebirth and End of Eva, or vice versa, but all are worth watching.

The old movies are good if you're in the mood to have your mind frelled with.
