English language Yoko Kanno interview online

An English-translated interview with Yoko Kanno has been posted on the official Production I.G website. The article mostly concerns her composing of the many Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex soundtracks, as well as giving an interesting insight into her creative processes and interactions with Stand Alone Complex director Kenji Kamiyama.

Fascinating stuff - strangely it never occured to me that the soundtrack composer has so much interaction with the rest of the creative team. It's always interesting to learn where the creators get their ideas from, although the music speaks for itself! It's strange to think that they'd been working on it for that length of time though - I'm all the more impressed that she can come up with one original piece after another, without running out of inspiration.

Just another reminder why she's one of my favourite songwriters!

That was a good interesting read. Yoko Kanno is definitely one of my favourite song writers, although i haven't seen Gig2 so not heard the music from that, the rest of her stuff is great. I didn't actually think though that the music would take 5 years to compose for the entire series but it was definitely 5 years well spent because of the results.
