Edge Benders

As you can no doubt gather from reading the title, this thread is about the cover edges bending inwards or outwards on paperback books. As you remove the books from shelves and put them on, it's difficult not to pull or push them along whatever they are placed on. There's also the issue of the books leaning against each other when a book is removed, resulting in bending unless some buffer is put in place quickly. And, in the case of the books that are placed at the sides of the units, there's the issue of the covers grinding against the sides when pulled in and out.

For some reason, I find myself becoming obsessed over this issue. Last night I discovered that my lovely Chrono Crusade books suffer from the evil of cover/page bending, and this pissed me off a lot considering those books have my favourite cover art. And for the life of me, I can't remember if the books were like that originally - I got them 2nd-hand but I'm pretty sure they were as new. I've probably made the issue worse by attempting to chreck them all...

Does this bother anyone else or am I simply delving deeper into insanity? :?

It annoys me that once you've read a manga the cover doesn't really stay fully closed anymore, but thats the only kind of deformation I've ever noticed with mine. Sometimes I put them under something heavy to re-flatten them. d:

That has never worked for me :lol:

That is the start of the horror. Once the cover stops staying closed, pressure gets put unto the cover whenever it leans on its side because of empty space left by the removal of other books. Once that occurs, it's not hard for the bending to begin.

Honestly, I'm not quite sure how this has become an issue - I try to look after my books. I can only assume that, because I reorder my books a fair amount and have limited space to work with (each shelf can hold 10 books), the bending has slowly but surely become more visible.

...I hate paperback books. ;________;

That would make my five storage units rather worthless, though. There isn't enough room for the volumes to fit on each shelf horizontally.

I have thought about using my more spacious DVD units for my manga, however the shelves are rather thin and bend even with just DVDs on them. If I were to put stacks of books on the shelves of those units, then the shelves would most likely break.

The only solution I can see is to buy the ultimate horizontal book storage unit. If I could find a link to such a unit, and it didn't cost £100's, I'd probably get it.
