DVD Question

I've got this really weird problem with a Dir en Grey DVD I got off'a Amazon for Christmas.

Now, i've played it on the DVD player (wired to the living room TV) and it works perfectly, but when I put it into my PC's disc drive (Which is working- i've installed Left 4 Dead 2 and tried a Nightmare DVD) it just wont recognize the fact there is a disc in there. No "Error can't read disc", just total nothingness. Any idea why I can't play it on my PC?

(I've normally found it easier to play DVD's through my PC...)

Thanks guys.

I'm not familiar with a computer falling on the first hurdle of running a disc. Normally, the problems only start once I try to play a disc after it has been recognised.

Nonetheless, I'll suggest doing what I'd try in this situation.
On a whim, there may be some 'disagreement' between the copy protection on the disc and your computer's hardware. Try running DVD43 before inserting the disc. It's freeware, and I've used it myself several times.

I doubt this'll be a miracle cure, but it's still a useful piece of software to have in your arsenal.

Mhm but here's the thing- it works and runs fine on my Dads laptop (OS: Vista) but just wont here. I'll try it on the "Family PC" later thats also on XP and see if that works too though...

Its a long shot. but try looking at the codex.....some machines are fickle and will recognise some discs but not others, sometimes down to a codex problem.

I've had the same problem myself a few times, tried to rationalise a reasoning behind why it won't work and surmised that sometimes "things just aren't meant to be"

The what? lol.

Aye, i'm feeling like i'm just doomed not to watch the Dir en Grey DVD lol. I rarely get the TV free, let alone to watch a music related DVD.

Does all of the other DVD´s work ok on the same player in your computer? Have you checked what region this disc is?

good luck hope it helps :D

Now that I see this thread I realized I've never called you back that day... =S
Sorry mate, I've completely forgot about this.

Tachi was talking about these:

But, I don't think it's the issue, because you should at least be able to mount the disc on the drive.

Try this and let me know what happens:
Start Menu > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > right click the DVD drive in the list > Properties.
Then go to Drive tab and select to update drivers.

Aye Chaos, the issue is that that way of Driver updating didn't work last time. Just sends me through a ****** wizard. I'm thinking the drive may just be truely ******.

I see... Did the drive came with a setup CD / DVD? If it did, you can try deleting the drive, set it up again using the cd / dvd and try to update later. If you don't have that, you can check if can dl it online and give it a try. The manufacturer website should have more info on how to do this update.

Edit: also check there the type of media the DVD is (dual layer, single, etc) and see the DVD drive specs. As you mentioend it's new, I don't believe this is the problem, but it's always possible your drive can't read certain types fo media.
