OWEN WILSON has been rushed to hospital following a suspected suicide attempt.

The star was taken to Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai hospital shortly after midday on Sunday.

Santa Monica police issued a statement saying officers responded to a "medical assistance call" at a house on the actor’s street. "The person was transported to a local hospital where they are being treated," the statement added.

The National Enquirer claims the hospitalisation followed an attempt by the star to take his own life.

Sources tell the magazine the actor sliced his wrists and took an indeterminate amount of pills.

National Enquirer editor in chief David Perel reportedly told website Perezhilton.com: "Owen Wilson has now been transferred to another Los Angeles area hospital. His brothers Andrew and Luke are with him.

"Andrew found him after the suicide attempt and called an ambulance. Both of Owen’s wrists were slashed superficially and Owen had taken an overdose of pills.

"Owen was found with a nearly empty bottle of pills next to him. He was at his house in Santa Monica."

Wilson's parents Robert and Laura are at his bedside too.

Possibly a publicity stunt? - such extreme measures aren't unheard of.

I severely doubt it, and even if it was true, so what? Celebreties who've "gone off the rails" and are in rehab are a dime a dozen these days, he's gonna have to come up with a better routine that plain old suicide if he wants to grab attention.

Stand on top of the empire state building with a baby in each hand.....no - an adopted third world child - in each hand, explosives strapped to your chest and threaten to jump while slashing your wrists and popping pills, THAT will get you ratings.
