Dresden Pictures announced today that they have acquired the rights to produce a British live-action movie adaptation of Akiyuki Nosaka's Grave of the Fireflies novel (which Isao Takahata's famous anime movie of the same name was based on). Liam Garvo and James Heath (funnily enough, I went to school with a guy with the same name) are expected to start shooting the film in 2014.

Dresden Pictures is the first non-Japanese company to acquire adaptation rights to the novel.

Surely the problem here is that of all the film companies to make a film set during WWII, the one making this is shares the name of what is widely seen as the biggest mistake the British made during the entire war.

Other than that however, I'd like to see how this film comes about. I intend to follow with interest.
