Thinking of putting my hair into dreads, though I've no idea if it's reversable or not (may sound like a stupid question).

Can you undo the knots and just have long hair again? - or do you have to just cut them off?

If you can undo them, I'm so getting dreads.

I'm afraid I kinda agree here, Dreaklocks are dead hair and that isn't really a good look.

But if you want them then go ahead, but I think you have to cut them off if you don't want them anymore.

Personally i love dreads, they look amazing on the right people and its a complete and utter lie that you're hair is dead/unclean. Yes if you dont bother to care for it but its the same for normal hair, just use some common sense and browse the net for info.

You're treading a fine moral line to say that only black people can have them - which is the feeling im getting from that post..... :?

But to answer your question, yes you would need to cut them out when you wanted to get rid of them. Also you generally need at least a bit wavy hair to get good dreads unless you want to pay through the nose to get it done professionally. A friend of mine has thin, straight as a ruler hair and he got some accquaintances to do his. They looked horrible, really really nasty, thin locks, most of which were frayed and falling apart already.

Good dreads look amazing but bad dreads look the pits. Most of you have probably only seen the stuff done with a tub of candlewax by a friend or sibling rather than a professional job.

I have considerably thick, slightly wavy hair, so I'm probably a good candidate. xD

Probably won't do it though, especially if I have to cut my hair.

That's like... 28 months of growing gone. :x

My friend had dreads for about a year, his hair was shoulder length and he managed to get rid of them without cutting his hair, but his hair was in a reyt state afterwards so he eventually cut it all off to regrow as he couldn't do anything with it.
So i guess you'll have to cut it all off to get rid of it or go through hours of combing it out which he said hurt a lot and then have really damaged hair.

Hehe do it! A friend's brother had them for a good 5 odd years - about halfway down his upper arm till he decided to cut them out. Anyways he was a true hippy and they really suited him. He's got shortish hair now but i wish he'd get them again, every other hair style is just wrong for him now!

People are gonna call me weird but i think girls with dreads looking amazing. Its really unique and you hardly every see them around. Plus its a big slap in the face to people who say they're scummy looking - the ones ive seem with them look absolutely smoking. :D

I wish I had the stones to get my hair done in dreadlocks when mine was long. I for one would be jealouse.

I mean come on.... how many people can say they used to have dreadlocks? I wish I was one of those few. I know some people wouldn't get away with it but I think you'll be fine.

End of the day, it's your hair Kurogan. Do what ever :wink:

Heh.

By coincidence, a girl in my Graphics class today had them done-- she has hair about half the length of mine, and it took her 12 hours! d:

She did do it herself though; probably a LOT faster if you get it done professionally.
Anyway, hers looked kickass, and I MIGHT still get them done.

political correctness is getting outa hand, ya cant even differentiate between black and white people without getting called an immoral racist.
