Back in 2011, the Dragonball Z Kai condensed re-airing of the cult 1990s Weekly Shonen Jump sensation Dragonball Z ended with the Android Cell saga, leaving out the series' final story arc, the Majin Buu saga. After numerous teases last year from various corners of the globe, the April issue of V Jump has revealed that on 6th April 2014, a "new age of Kai" will begin with the series returning for the Majin Buu saga, filling the 9am timeslot currently held by Toriko.

Dragonball Z Kai is currently airing on Kix, while the original Dragonball Z anime was released on DVD last year by Manga Entertainment UK, who are currently releasing its sequel Dragonball GT and will be releasing the prequel Dragonball from May.

Can't wait for Funimation to release this. I've pretty much sold all my Dragon Ball stuff but kept Kai as I loved it.

Fingers crossed it remains Region A/B

Let's.hope.they include the bruse folcker sound track because the original Japanese one sounds lame it wasn't just the action that got me hyped for dragonball z but the music also played a roll it's just awesome I saw the Kai series on tv a while ago but it had the japanese soundtrack and I was not amused

Be interesting to see how they condense this. The Great Saiyaman saga is actually one of my favourites, but it's mostly filler so I expect it to be trimmed.

The music situation intrigues me too. Shunsuke Kikuchi's Japanese score works very well for the original Z, but it really did not work at all when it was crowbarred into Kai after the plagiarism debacle. Kikuchi's music does not fit the faster editing of Kai and the selection and placement of tracks was questionable at best. I suppose for consistency's sake they'll have to continue doing it, but Kai's music will forever be a lost opportunity now thanks to that incident.

I think I'm one of the only people to like the original Japanese soundtrack in Kai. I've heard this saga is getting brand new music but that was from a post on ANN.

With regards to the Faulkner music, no way is that gonna happen, it would have been on the other Kai sets if they were gonna do it. Might be something Funi look to do later (if allowed). They love getting every last penny for DBZ

Don't give FUNimation any ideas on yet another way to rerelease Dragonball Z xD.

I've always been interested in Kai, both because I've had the "Orange Brick" sets for years and recent re-watches involve me skipping most of the filler anyway. Plus Kai is in the actual 4:3, which is nice. In other words, if Manga brought Kai to this country, I would by it, especially the blu-rays, though I don't know how much better they look...

I dont think Manga will bring it here, at least in Blu-Ray, cause Funimation version is region B too so not worth for Manga to invest in it I guess. Though Dragon Ball always sells good i guess.

It looks awesome on Blu-ray.

Agree with you there. If you want them you can get them easily enough. Not worth Manga risking it IMO.

Their probably not allowed to officially say but there's no doubt about it, the voice actors have already confirmed it.

Or

The dub has nothing to do with Funimation and Toei are getting it done without them.

I do wonder what MangaUK's stance on Dragonball Z Kai would be, considering their stance on the first two Puella Magi Madoka Magica movies.

I am not making a move at the moment regarding Kai but like I said before, it would surprise me if Manga Uk release it here in BD. I dont have anything from Dragon Ball and i am keen to get the Kai version in BD so I guess I will wait a bit to see what happens.

If you think about it though. DBZ's US release was Region 2 aswell and it still sold really well for Manga when they released it and with BD authoring costs becoming a lot lower on top of that. Plus we do have to remember that it's not your typical anime release it's got a much wider audience, so you never know.

Are the people who brought Manga's DBZ release likely to buy DBZ Kai? It probably helps that it has been airing on Kix but I don't see it happening myself (nor would I consider supporting such a release myself).

Do you think it would work as blu-ray only? Like the DVD version of DBZ is the orange bricks, and the blu-ray version is Kai, the less filler and full picture being like added bonuses that would normally be the superior picture and sound stuff?
