Does anyone still watch Anime Central?

As you all probably know, Channel 199 on Sky is Anime Central.

I was so happy when I found out there'd be an anime channel on Sky, because other channels had broadcast anime before (Rapture and Propellor), but there was never a channel dedicated to it.

Their original line up was Bleach, Fullmetal Alchemist, Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Bebop and Witch-Hunter Robin. I loved the FMA days they held. I actually sat up all night at one point to watch it. :p

But then Bleach finished and they put in GI Joe. .-. Who watched GI Joe?

And now they only have constant repeats of Ghost in the Shell and Cowboy Bebop. I've got nothing against these shows, but add in some more variety, geez.

So, like the title says, now it's gotten all repetitive and boring, do you still watch Anime Central?
Can they not get any other animes?

I personally don't watch it. I don't have +, therefore I can't record it when I can't sit up until 3am watching repeats.

I don't think I have ever watched it. There were the odd times with bleach and fullmetal alchemist, but thats about it. The variety is dull. Its almost like animecentral has been thrown away and left to die. All they show is repeats after repeats of gits and cowboy bebop. I heard they shared their bandwith with pop girl, so thats why they can't start broadcasting until 9pm. Maybe if they had more children's shows around 4pm-8pm mark then they could do well. Also, if they showed some variation in the anime.

Anime central, and jetix seem to be the only anime showing channels in the uk. Compared to the US, our anime is pretty bad :/.

I know... but, I don't think anime's in a slump at all, though that's what death-mongers seem to tell you all the time. :? There are plenty of licensed series they could show. They could buy Death Note, Fruits Basket, all kinds of shows, cheap-as-chips....

Also, PopGirl and Kix are just... nauseating....... ugh.

The theme song for PopGirl.... ack, my ears! The narrator! Ack, my brain!!

I only really watch it to take the mickey out of Mew Mew Power.

I still watch it, but just so i can catch a few eps of ghost in the shell i missed

No offence to GitS, but I tried to sit through an episode and got really bored. Should I see the movie(s?) first, or is it the other way around?

If I wanted to watch the same two shows on an endless loop, I'd just put the DVD on...at least then it wouldn't be in sub-VHS picture quality. =)

Lol, yeah, I compared an FMA episode I'd recorded from Anime Central and the one from my DVD and the quality was better. ^^
But that may just be because I have a really big telly...

I lost all hope for the channel weeks ago.. Shame to, since it's anime line-up weren't half bad!

I know.... But is there any way to save it? I miss my FMA marathons and taking the mick out of Bleach sessions...

errr, I believe they lacked sponsors.... more viewers, more sponsors, more sponsors, more shows, etc, etc, etc... really hard to say, but I think they should have tried to do things a bit differently.

Yeah, they just seem REALLY lazy.
I want to have my own anime channel where I, the TV executive, show stuff that people will actually watch, you know? If only, if only....

Hmm, I'd be surprised if FMA gets shown again. It was already orginally shown via Anime Network till that finished. Then the series finished like twice on AnimeCentral and then they proceeded to make a marathon out of it. I love the series myself, but too much of a good thing can turn it BAAAAD. And yes, they probably could save it... with a little more variety added to the channel. GITS:SAC and Cowboy Bebop being shown 24/7 is starting to take the piss. It's almost as though they're daring the channel's viewers to stop watching.

That's exactly what I'm thinking.... I mean, if my brother's up and I am too, we might sit together and watch Cowboy Bebop. But even that would get boring after a while.

And yes, FMA did finish twice on there, but.... like I've said before, they can get lots of licensed animes... Lazy GiTs. :p Ha, see what I did there? Hello.

Sadly i think the bell has tolled for Anime Central, it was a great idea and i for one didn't mind the lineup or the time table but for reasons this and that it just collsaped.

I think it's time we accepted that UK TV will never succesfuly air an anime that hasn't been 2x4'd in the face by Jetix, boot up our bittorrent clients and never look back as far as geting something resembleing a TV airing of our anime is concerned.

It's a sad thing, but it's true, the bell has tolled. It's gonna take quite a bit to save it now. It really was a good idea, if only they'd gotten more varied stuff like, idk, Kare Kano and Death Note. Something like that... even Fruits Basket for goodness sake. And InuYasha. They could've made this work, but they went about the completely wrong way. Anime Central was a huge dissapointment. =[

*Cough* It was Rapture *Cough*

All I can say... it was good while it lasted. I hadn't seen most of the shows that they broadcast.

Things are up to something though as the Ofcom listings changed to 'True Entertainment'
