District 13 - Reviewed

Synopsis

It's 2013 and Parisian ghetto District 13 has become so dangerous the authorities have walled it in and left its inhabitants to rot. But when a neutron weapon is stolen by a ghetto gangmember, enter super-cop Damien (Cyril Raffaelli) and wrongly-imprisoned ghetto-dweller Leito (David Belle). They're both hard-as-nails and experts in Le Parkour, an extreme sport involving wall scaling, roof-running and building-to-building leaping...

OH MY GOD

Stunning, I was blown away, the action kicks off straight away and the pace NEVER slows, the fight scenes are fluid mixing martial arts styles, weapons, multiple fighting arenas.

I watched the subbed version and I can't see fault, the story is also believable a suburb of the city where the worst are sent to live a prison for those who avoid arrest.

The stunts are spectacular at the start there is a chase across the roofs of council flats down walls through windows and no camera trickery or cgi. Later we have a fight in a casino where some of the best action takes place.

A film with car crashes, fighting, parquor (no idea the spelling also called free-running), guns and no CGI or cable work.

5 out of 5 - I love this movie you can definately see that the same guy made Leon and the Transporter when you watch this.

Favourite scene - Leito pulls a cop through a set of prison bars and then using the surrounding bars as a launch pad basically decapitates the guy (off screen of course)

I bought this this very morning McIcy (at time of writing of course) in the "sale".

My eldest brother is visiting from Bristol this weekend too so I'll watch it with him. Only thing I've actually seen of this French film is a trailer but what I saw made me very excited!

By the way McIcy, I decided to get this on your praise alone (well, not alone - the trailer and the "free-running" sequence in Casino Royale also helped the decision) so I have high/ish expectations.

When I've seen it I'll give my verdict. I can't see it but being an above average action film mind. Anything less will result in me "throwing a wobbly"! :D

Got for Xmas from my parents and I watched it straight away, I love this film something about the story so screams 'the world tomorrow'. I hope the Casino Royale opening will also inspire more people to pick up this movie

I was going to watch District 13 last night with my brother, but I found out he already owned it on DVD so I'll watch it in the next few days or so. I'm extra confident of the film's quality because my eldest brother liked it enough to buy it on DVD and he says I'll probably think its fantastic.

Here's hoping...

McIcy, I STILL haven't gotten around to watching District 13 but I'm very likely going to watch it on Saturday, and when I do we'll go off on one I suspect! Thought I add that.

Well, I finally watched it today and have to agree with McIcy. What a film! Absolutely incredible, whether its the free-running, martial arts or gunplay!

The story may not be in-depth, but it certainly has relevance. Some of the conversations were actually interesting too!

What we have here basically is Europes (and more precisely, Frances) own Ong-Bak. It really is that good as far as I'm concerned! Better than Warrior King in my opinion too. In fact, I'd probably rate it above Ong-Bak simply because of the stronger premise, but that would be if I had to choose.

I implore anyone who likes Far Eastern action cinema to watch this film, because it shows that even Europe can make films that have the same kind of flavours!

Its about time you checked it out Hovis

It far excelled past Warrior King (the story ruined WK for me).

Yes I knew you'd love this one Hovis, inner city war with a real feel to it.

You ever get the impression though, McIcy, that a lot of people won't watch this film because by-and-large its a French film, and some (or a lot? I don't know) have great apathy to anything to do with France?

I mean, I reckon were the only two who's probably seen this film on the forum. You get that impression? ;-)

Yeah I feel its being avoided because of its french based story and language but in a way thats what makes it unique and worth watching

Anyone who's seen Jackie Chan in New Police Story and liked it, watch District 13. Anyone who's seen District 13 and liked it, watch New Police Story.

Simple as that. :)
