How does this differ from say, downloading from Amazon to a Kindle? Is Comixology a subscription all-you-can-eat service like Crunchyroll manga?

Nice to see Dark Horse finally get on ComiXology. Shame they haven't gone DRM-free though...

It doesn't, ComiXology is like Amazon Kindle but for comics. You buy the comics, either individual issues or bundles (or maybe volumes in a graphic novel format) and then you can read them on your PC, smartphone or tablet. Some providers let you download a DRM-free PDF or CBZ, most don't. Dark Horse aren't, you can tell when a DRM-free download is available because they have an arrow leading to a tray in their icons.

It's owned by Amazon, so I wouldn't worry too much about losing access to books you can't officially download.

The appeal of ComiXology above Kindle is that, in the traditional comics field, ComiXology has way more choice and variety. That and a lot of the indie publishers will allow DRM-free downloads. It has a lot less manga than Kindle though, so don't expect much of that to pop up.

I prefer dead trees. But good to see them getting stuff out there.

@Lutga - I don't think so. I think it's just a distribution platform. I think you still have to buy volumes individually.

And they're not region locked like how Viz, in-spite of being basically the Japanese company given Western form, can't seem to get their rights in check which is nice.

No DRM Unlocked DTO versions but eh, that's life.

It's great to see Dark Horse finally on ComiXology, if I do get around to getting some DH titles I'll definitely consider it, though competition from Amazon/Nook will have me choosing. But if ComiXology decide to do one of their sales for DH at some point...well!

At $10 a volume, a full collection of Blade of the Immortal still isn't going to be cheap. I suppose this is the going rate for digital manga, but if it's going to cost me an arm and a leg I'd rather buy the books and have it cost me both arms and both legs.
