Dante's Inferno Project

The Boss
"Production I.G will produce the animation for one chapter of the highly anticipated feature-length international animated project Dante's Inferno.
Dante's Inferno is 6-chapter movie based on Electronic Arts' adaptation of the famed XIV century Italian poem by Dante Alighieri. Some of the most accomplished, creative animation directors will capture the journey of Dante as he moves through the 9 Circles of Hell, fighting the devil and his minions, in search of his beloved, Beatrice.
Production I.G's chapter is directed by Yasuomi Umetsu, the visionary anime maestro behind extreme, action-packed cult titles such as A Kite, Mezzo DSA and Kite Liberator, but also the hauntingly beautiful Presence segment in the classic Robot Carnival omnibus. Dante's Inferno marks the first collaboration ever between Umetsu and Production I.G.
The movie, Dante's Inferno produced by Los Angeles-based Film Roman, a division of Starz Media, is part of a multi-media project that originated from a video game with the same title released by Electronic Arts. The Electronic Arts game and the Film Roman movie, which Anchor Bay Entertainment will distribute worldwide on home entertainment formats, are slated for release on the same day-and-date in 2010"

Ah yes, same developers as Dead Space, which was a great game no one spoke about, and it'll have an animated feature too like Dead Space? I'll keep an eye out on this one, I wonder if it'll be set as a prequel like the Dead Space movie.

Wow. I had no idea what this was all about, but I'm bubbling to get the game now.
As for the movie, I wouldn't mind having a go at that too.

*Glomp* Thank you Chaos! I now have a newly awaiting hobby to look out for. :D

This game had a god of War feel to it from the screenshots I've seen.
I hear that EA will use different companies for the in-game movies and the the movie. Yasuomi Umetsu did Kite and Mezzo DSA both have amazing fights in it and if he follows what he did before, I expect this to be very stylish, pretty and amazing.

No word on the other companies, but I believe they will use other big names as well.

These east meets west anime anthologies seem to be getting increasingly common, what with Halo legends on the horizon and the recent Gotham Knight. Haven't really seen or heard much about the game yet, but involvement from Production I.G. is always a good thing in my book.

Hmm, i will say i'm quite interested in this one actually, though i still don't know too much on Dantes inferno. I was sure i read somewhere once before that FMA had some influence from it, but i could be wrong(with the seven sins)

Yeah, it's about the 9 circles of hell rather than the 7 sins. It's kinda similar, but I doubt FMA actually helped at all with the idea, especially since it came from something done times before animation was even invented.

Sure, you have Lust, Gluttony, etc but they're homunculi - human-made personifications of (in FMA's case) a sin. The 9 cirles are actual area within hell with their own daemons and archdaemons. I know Gluttony became this huge bloated festering freak in the movie, but he was no daemon. Just a uncontrolable freak.

Ahh, see i knew about the idea of the 9 circles, i think it was more the idea behind the homunculis deaths. I heard that the likes of Lust and i think it was Greeds deaths in the manga where remenicent(sp?) of those in Dantes Inferno, however as said, i could be mistaken.

Greed boiled alive, Lust burnt to death. Yeah, I believe it has something to do with it, mostly following the laws of how each will die, sadly Envy didn't die how he's meant to, drown in cold icy waters or something like that

Oh cool, ive always wanted to read The Divine Comedy but i hear its a pretty hard read. I think theres a version out there rewritten in english(instead of old english).

This seems cool though. Although anything with religious mythos i always think is cool.

...except for religion 0_o
