Custom fees

Has anyone here ever been stung by customs fees when importing BR's from Amazon.com? I want to preorder some Blu's from there (works out about £10 cheaper than Axel) but don't fancy getting hit with the fee's.

I've been told it's less likely with things like CDs, DVDs and the like.

edit: should have mentioned that the order comes to about £55.

My guess is that £10 you save will be eaten up by the VAT man, and then Royal Mail will make you wish that you'd gone with Axel in the first place. You might get away with it, but speaking from personal experience it's rare that Customs misses a chance to slap fees on packages over the threshold, no matter what goods it contains.

You're almost guaranteed to get stung with Amazon.com, sadly. However, when I last bought something from there, they had an option to pre-pay the customs charges during checkout, which might show up for you as it's a decent sized order. Prepaying the charges is annoying but saves you the offensive Parcelforce/RM fees and speeds everything up.

Check also whether all items are coming from Amazon proper or from sellers - if they are split shipping you might dodge the charges anyway as the values will be lower.

Thanks, yeah I checked the expedited shipping option (which then covers the fees) and then it works out at £65, which is just as much as Axel.

Anyways, I won't risk it and I'll stick with Axel for this one :) thanks for the quick replies.
