The Boss
MCM London Expo sent us this press release calling for cosplayers

<i>"<b>WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT:</b>
Your chance to be part of gaming history!

The London MCM Expo needs you! The UK's No.1 consumer event for movies, video games, comics and more is attempting to smash the world record for the largest gathering of people dressed as video game characters on the opening day of the event, Saturday 23 May 2009, at the London ExCel Centre!

Last October, the London MCM Expo played host to the current world record during the London Games Festival where 342 fancy dressers ranging from Mario to Solid Snake and Final Fantasy characters narrowly got into the record books by beating the former record of 337. Let's show the world that London's serious about gaming this May!

To Qualify:
1. All participants must be wearing costumes representing characters from video games.

2. Characters from other media such as films, television, books and comics are acceptable; however these must have featured in video games before any subsequent appearances in other media. For example: (a.) Lara Croft first appeared in a video game in 1996, prior to subsequent movie and comic book appearances; therefore Lara Croft qualifies for the world record attempt. (b.) Superman first featured as a comic book character in 1938, prior to his first appearance as a video game character in 1978; therefore Superman does not qualify."</i>

I remember turning up to see a World Record cosplaying attempt outside the Tate Modern last year. Diverting, but certainly short of a record-breaking feat.

I'm somehow surprised this news report didn't attract the attention of the cosplayers around here... :S

There is a large amount of cosplay hate on this board.

That was setting the original record. One didn't exist before that. There was some American con that tried but it wasn't recognised for some reason.

Well anyway, I'll be there again to take part. Really want to push for the 400 mark.

When the Cosdocs thing came up there were alot of people bashing the idea and cosplay in general. One idiot said that "cosplay is worst thing about anime fandom".

Also the last time this record was done a few people started on it as well.

I am planning on being at the Excel for this event so I will definately be dressing up and taking part as I am a PROUD COSPLAYER.

Searched for that and yeah, one person did say that, but still it was one person alone.

Althought I don't cosplay myself I love to take pics of it on events and such. Some staff in AUKN cosplay as well, so I don't think it's fair to say there if forum hate on it.
