Claymore Discussion

Right, Eureka Seven obviously wasn't popular, which is fair enough, so we'll move on and see how Claymore fairs.
Hah, whats more, with the Competition for volumes 1 + 2, its a good way to take a looky if you end up liking the first couple of episodes.

Now i've seen all of the series and i thought it was pretty strong overall, it does feel a tad like "Berserk Lite" as well in some ways. I still need to continue on with the manga, but i do know the last two episodes of the anime where pretty much anime only, so i'd like to see how it differs in the manga, and how it continues past there.

Claymore is definitely one of my favourite anime as it has a really great storyline :D

My favourite characters in it are Galatea,Teresa,Miria and Irene

Eureka Seven not popular? What's the matter? Too DEEP for you? Haha, I kid.

I really liked the Claymore anime A LOT, great animation, decent fights and quite the haunting OST. Manga I don't really care about, the timeskip is pretty bad, but since it's anime only discussion it's safe to say I can leave the negativity out of it.

Brilliant anime, though as said, it does seem like a watered down Berserk. Or maybe Berserk is an Over The Top Claymore?! Aha~~~!

The OST is great though one of them sounds like they placed a speaker next to a lawnmower.

Wasn't a fan of the manga, as the style just didnt take my fancy.

But I am SOOOOOOOO looking forward to getting this! I haven't had a decent looking fantasy fighter for a while. That's all I really know about it though.

I'm not seeing the Berserk comparison yet, at least not on the strength of the first ten episodes. Ok, demons, large swords, lots of blood, and we have a freaky start followed by a flashback sequence to get the hero/heroine's back story and motivation (Yeah, Berserk was all flashback)

But in terms of central themes, the two series can't be more different. Berserk was very much character focussed, all about Griffith, Guts and Caska, and the background to the slaughter played out like a political drama.

Claymore hasn't (as yet) the same character focus. While the character development is good, and I love how well the character quirks come across in women who are visually quite similar, the story isn't so much about how the characters relate to each other. It's far more about the mysteries surrounding the Yoma, the Claymores and Voracious Eaters. It's a very solid action show, plot heavy, and I love it in a completely different way to how I love Berserk.

- Dark fantasy.
- 11/10 flashback story, which turns out to be better than the rest of the story.
- Revenge story, where someone hunts a far stronger enemy.
- Big swords.
- Bigger monsters.

The politics of the Band of the Hawk saga, horse rape and amount of males aside, the two a very similar. There's even a scene copied right out of Berserk where Clare has to fight her friend if she wants to leave. Both focus more on characters and slaughter than they do on story, and both lost my interest when I kept going with the stories beyond the end of the anime series.

Berserk is the darker of the two by some distance - Miura is clearly rather sick - but they are very, very similar in many respects. That's why I liked Claymore so much right from the get-go.

The anime is brilliant until the two last two episodes, where it takes a turn for a terrible. It should've ended like the Berserk manga. But, ignoring those two episodes, it's hard not to love the anime. The music is atmospheric, pulling its viewers into the world and, quick sword spamming aside, it's a lovely show to look at. Well worth my money.

I'm going to watch my DVDs now, on my PC because my TV decided to die ON THE ******* MORNING THE DVDS ARRIVED. ******* arse.

Lol eureka seven is like two dimensional. It's good though.

Claymore was good, but I need more.

Women with blond hair, with all sorts of fascinating physiological and biological functions (shooting tentacles, regenerating/regrowing limbs, etc., not to mention the amazing stuff the awakened beings can do) ==> Guts.
Otherwise, Claymore's is a pretty damn huge world. Sure, Yagi didn't spend like a month thinking up each character, but surely, the world makes up for that.

Claymore is a series which left me thunderstruck.
I've got my hands on a copy of the V1 and I couldn't stop watching it. It was the "medieval" fantasy anime that I've been waiting Berserk and Record of Loddoss war.

The art and music is terrificly atmospheric, it drags you to the world of Claymores right away. Story-wise, the first few episodes are sort of a mess. There is very little to care about, it just gives a little character introduction and tries to get you familiar with the settings.
When the Teresa of the faint smile arc kicks in, then you can see some good storytelling.

I've seen Claymore until the fight with the first awakened being, which is the end of the first volume, but I must say that I'm really looking forward for the volumes to come.

I'm still undecided about the manga. The time skip seemed like a cheap shounen manga trick, the only redeeming part of it could be the fact that she went into training after awakening, which enhanced her potential.

I've watched all the episodes of Claymore and loved the show from start to finish.Yes,the show does have comparisions to Berserk which I also have all the episodes on dvd but Claymore shows it's shonen roots a lot more.
As for the last two episodes of the Claymore anime ,they are not as bad as some people make out .The Battle for Pietra which finishes in the anime at episode 24 does not leave much of a resolution or climax to the anime series as immediately after this battle in the manga Yagi the author decides to jump seven years into the future.
This left the makers of the anime a headache as they had to wrap up the show with the remaining two episodes with some kind of resolution but without going to far away from Yagi's canon.I know a lot of manga fans of the series gave out about the last two episodes but I think the makers of the anime had their hands tied due to the fact that some of the characters in the anime still show later on in the manga which still continues.I'm sure that the makers were also possibly thinking about another anime series down the way when Yagi produces enough source material for one
P.S As I'm writing this the postman has just put the first two discs of Claymore through my letterbox,so I'm signing off now to go watch them. :D

It could've ended with the battle at Pieta - the part where the monsters are about to kill everyone and it doesn't show what happens. That would've left the door open for a sequel, as well as ending the series in a non-retarded manner.

And have another reason for it to be called "Berserk Lite"? GENIUS!

I'm sure they only made the last two episodes to escape the stigma =)

Berserk manga readers already refer to its anime adaptation as Berserk Lite, so Claymore can't take that title.

It's irrelevant whether or not ending the series in that manner would've resulted in more people linking Claymore to Berserk. All that matters is that a Berserk-esque cliffhanger ending would've been the ideal way for the anime to have ended in order for more time to be given to the manga.

There probably won't ever by a sequel, anyway. From what I read on MAL, Claymore didn't sell well in Japan, and its the Japanese market anime studios care about.

---------

I finished the first volume last night. As ever, I wasn't so hot on the pre-Teresa first four episodes, but I became addicted once the Teresa arc got started. I'd like to rewatch more episodes on DVD, and I would if Manga weren't slow with their releases.

Well i've just seen episode 12 and I can't help but feel the series has gone down at this episode :(

The Teresa arc was brilliant, and the start of whatever arc this is was too but this episode killed it. I don't understand why the heck at the end Raki and Clare kissed. I mean, in one of the earlier episodes the shadey dude had said to Clare that Raki was like her Brother from the time she was human. What brother and sister relationship shares mouth-to-mouth kisses? Was I on the wrong track when I pictured thier realtionship as a Brother/Sister relationship?

Ah well. It's still awesome just, this episode wasn't up to the usual standard. Hopefully it'll improve again soon :)

The 'prostitute kiss' is an anime only thing, iirc. It's the last time they see each other (manga) for a looooooooooooooong time, so the anime team went over the top with Clare's 'goodbye'.
