Anyway...I got Bullet Witch on Thursday. Every review I read said it stunk, but people on the Xbox forums were pretty positive about it. There aren't many Japanese 360 games around, so I'm sure quite a few people here have taken note of Bullet Witch.
In a nutshell, the world has been overrun by these zombie things. This came after years of wars, illnesses and disasters, so there's not many humans left. I can't remember if the reason for all this was just casually mentioned, or if that's a spoilz so I'll save it. A (sexy) witch named Alicia decides to wipe out the zombies and save the day.
I've completed the game on normal, and I'm currently replaying on easy. I think it's better second time around, because I know more of what I'm doing this time (which is the same with most games I imagine).
Once I got into the shooting and running around, I was really enjoying it. It's a pretty straightforward game...shoot enemies, shoot bigger enemy, go through newly-opened area, shoot more enemies. I was cursing the lack of a lock-on, but I got used to the targetting system easy enough.
You start off with a machine gun-style weapon and I think, a couple of spells. As you advance and get points at the end of levels, you can "buy" three new gun forms (the gatling is expensive, but POWERFUL), new spells (Ravens Panic is my favourite), and better healing abilities. The spells you get automatically through the story make some HUGE effects, and you'll need them to beat the bigger bosses, artillery and massive hoardes of soldiers. The bosses are massive. There's only a couple, but they're bigger than most games' bosses combined.
The graphics are alright, but not really 360 standard. The main issue is that big shadows (trees usually) flicker and disappear as you run along. It's not a major issue, but it can be kinda distracting, and shouldn't be allowed in this day and age. The closeups in cutscenes are beautiful though, and explosions always look great.
Sound is pretty much nondescript. The voices are okay (Alicia has a nice voice too!), but there's no music to speak of. I think it would work really well if you played some Evanescence off the HD as you played...I might try it.
The game isn't very long, but with FIVE difficulties, loads of power-up stuff, and an intriguing "Concept Mission"* option on the main menu after you beat the main game, there's loads of stuff to do.
Overall, it's a fun game...no classic, but still worth a play. I paid £29.99 for it, which is a nice price for a brand new release. If there's any more questions, ask away!
*There'll be downloadable content on the Marketplace soon...new outfits, new "conceot" missions, all kinds of fun stuff. - see http://fourzerotwo.blogspot.com/2007/03 ... -week.html
Anyone already bought, or considering buying BW?
