A budget squeeze in children's television has forced animation producer Cosgrove Hall to make eight staff redundant and change its business strategy.

The company, which had a turnover of £9m in 2007 and employs 35 staff, has been in business for 32 years, making kids' classics like Noddy, Chorlton and the Wheelies and Danger Mouse.

Count Duckula.... how could I forget that... =D

I still have it on video, infact Count Ducula helped me pass my maths exam as it mentioned what Pi was in one episode and it stuck with me for life.

deal with it

if they can't think of anything orignal that's half decent, what do you expect?

just put on reruns of bucky o'hare and cities of gold and the country would be better off

Since the budget cuts are the result of a lack of funding following the ban on junk food advertising (as you would have known if you had actually bothered to read the article), I'm not sure that a lack of quality is really a factor. If you have evidence to the contrary, please post it.

And what was so good about Bucky O'Hare, exactly? I used to love it as a kid, but I dug up an old episode on tape a while back and it was terrible. Have you actually watched it at all since you were a kid?

Meh, British animation doesn't really do anything for me, so I'm not that concerned.

What is with AUKN using this word? It's outdated and not even used in the right way most of the time and it's starting to grate :/

Wrong decision bringing this topic here, British animation on a Japanese animation forum? [Regardless if most of us -are- British]

The Cosgrove Hall exhibition at the Albert Dock back in the 90s was AMAZING.

If they brought that back, I'd singlehandedly get their profits up... >_>

There is very little cartoons on nowdays on normal channels (1-5). There is nothing like turtles thundercats or transformers anymore either. Probebly because the pollitccally corect idiots dont want us to see a turtle with a sword. And then go and show the joker in the new batman film rated 12.

I don't think any of those were British... but that does lead me to point out that so much of childrens tv these days is imported - which is probably a big factor in UK companies not getting funding anymore. Did anyone see the "Badass Wombles" vid to promote British kids tv?

Yeah but i think the point was that the normal channels aren't showing cartoons like that anymore regardless of country of origin. Though for the record there is and still continues to be Transformer cartoons made, the newest being Transformers Animated :p

You're mention of a wombles vid intrigues me...how old was it?
