Pokémon Master
So, I know loads of people do this, so I'm gonna make a thread about it :lol:

Okay, things I have done...
I traded in a copy of Naruto Season 2 Part 1 just because it was the thick case version
I also might trade in my Darker Than Black singles because the spines don't match up
And now they're re-releasing the One Piece manga with the saga labels, must resist XD

In terms of DVD spines Manga and MVM are particularly bad at this, it's something I've commented on many a time (I can almost forgive MVM more because theirs is just a general lack of consistency, vs Manga's rage-inducing "one odd spine in every series"). I tell you one thing, if they dare screw up the spines on the FMA: Brotherhood BDs I'll desert the UK industry faster than it takes to create a standardised template for DVD covers.

I hadn't noticed it being a problem with manga until I bought Black Lagoon Vol. 8. As if the single DVD volumes weren't bad enough...

This is why I wait for boxsets. EXACTLY why (that and it's cheaper and they all line up nice and save space =3) I'm still pissed at the lord of the rings though. I mean 2 towers was slightly off but they didn't even TRY with ROTK.

They re-covered all the Haruhi LNs in Japan this summer so the covers make one big picture... and as of the next printing, I think they'll be going back to the old covers, so you won't be able to get them anymore! I still can't decide whether to buy them or not.

This kind of thing bugs me, but I actually get over it quite easy. I have the old Buena Vista Ghibli releases mixed in with the Optimum ones (though since the numbers on the spines don't make an ounce of sense anyway...). My mid-teen Fruits Basket volumes have been nuclear-burned to near oblivion by the sun, and I have the ADV Yotsuba& with the Yen Press versions. It'd be nice to have them correct but... meh.

It's like how people spend tens or even hundreds of pounds getting black-bordered Playstation releases. I understand the rationale, up until the point where it starts costing time and money.

lol, this, a thousand times this. I went to the trouble of rebuying the ones I already owned, and it still looks retarded because somehow the arbitrary order that the films were released in the UK in somehow takes precedence over the order they were made it!

I can understand that they had no idea they were going to release obscure, mid-nineties stuff like Ocean Waves which would have been reflected in the numbering if absent, but if they felt they absolutely had to have numbers, there were themes or directors they could at least have attempted to number them by.

Speaking of Ocean Waves, it's the only Optimum Ghibli title I own that has been brandished with the mark of Satan (that is, the Irish rating logo). Consistency fail.

Yeah, I hate this **** as well. You'd think that distributors would be happy to have people who are willing to pay money for their DVDs as opposed to downloading the content off the internet, and would make a little effort to ensure that they look presentable when placed side-by-side on a shelf. The Darker Than Black spines are infuriating.

I was so tempted to buy the One Piece 1-3 reprint, just because I own 3-6 and -7-9, so the spines don't match up.

Also, I held off buying the rest of the FMA manga for a while, because Volume 4 onwards weren't shiny like 1-3 are. Also on FMA, I hate how Revelation Films put the "Episodes X-X" bit on the spine of their releases, as now they don't match my old Volume 1-8s.

Also, I am miffed at how I brought Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY volumes 1-5 as singles, but by the time I had money to buy the rest, it'd be cheaper to buy the 6-10 boxset, so I did. Now I can't line them up unless I leave the empty box somewhere. Also, I have Gundam SEED in Anime Legends, because tbh, non-AL was too expensive.

I'm so glad i've found other people who do this.

My collection has to be in order, so, all Studio Ghibli's [number wise], then if i have more then one anime [or live action film] by the same director, they have to be in order of their release date. I also place my DVD's in general categories, so for example, all korean films in one area, all comedy in another, once again, they're placed all in order.

I'm currently annoyed that i have a bootleg version of Ponyo [i couldn't wait for the official release :p ] ..it really freaking bugs me that it doesn't have a number.

My shelves are divided as follows:

Anime A-Z (series and movies mixed)
Non-Anime Movies A-Z
TV A-Z (This includes TV series, eg Stargate SG-1, The Inbetweeners, and stand-up comedy and other funnies)

Occassionally there comes a beast that fits more than one category... *glares at the original 80s Transformers movie and its integral part in the TV series*

My three shelves:

1. General Films A-Z / General Series A-?
2. General Series ?-Z
3. Disney Chronological / Pixar Chronological / Ghibli Chronological / Satoshi Kon Chronological / PS2 A-Z

All the time. It does get annoying when I get a box set or if a box set needs moving as I get big gaps at the end which I need to fill using films or games.

OK, cool, that's pretty much the main reason I don't do that, so since you don't have a magic solution I shall continue not doing so. ^^;

Why buy a bootleg when you could have just downloaded and replace it with the official DVD it was released?

Less money goes to the pirates, that way...

How do you lot keep things in alphabetical order? Don't you end up having to move things around all the time when you buy new stuff?

Yes, though thankfully my wife usually does that for me. Sometimes I deliberately buy anime beginning with 'A' just to tease her because they go on the very first shelf, so all the other shelves would be moved a bit. XD

Edit: Corrected a spelling error. Even I cock it up sometimes. ^^;

Reminds me of the Foot and Mouth files I kept in order once. No matter how much expansion room you left in the drawer, sooner or later you need to add another filing cabinet and shift stuff from drawer to drawer to drawer...
