blu-ray multi-region

hey I fund out the other day that some anime is available in america on blu-ray and was wondering if there is a multi-region blu/-ray player so I don't have to wait for the crappy england releases

Some blu-ray dvds are multi-regional and some aren't.

For example 'Appleseed: Ex Machina' and 'Final fantasy: Spirits Within' are region free while 'Tekkonkinkreet' and 'Paprika' are not.

I'm not sure why some companies have them region locked and some don't but meh.

Out of my blu-ray collection only one disc is region-locked and it's not anime (Curse of the Golden Flower US version). If you shop around you should be able to pick a single region (choices are really between EU+Africa or US+Japan realistically for this fandom) and then just keep an eye on whether releases in the other are locked each time. Cheapest to get a UK player probably - most US blu-ray anime is region free so far and the remainder will likely get EU releases with English subs (I originally bought the French Paprika for example) somewhere. Hopefully even UK release :)

Oh, the irony! The ones that are from Sony are locked but the ones that are not locked are from other companies (not sure about FF:SW). Apparently, it's Sony who encourage distributors not to region lock their discs... Ridiculous. EDIT: Eh, you must be talking about the European release, because that list says the US releases are region free... So I guess it isn't so bad.

For the next generation I think I'll be going all US, US PS3 (that's probably the only BD player I'll need), and US and Japanese releases. That's perfect.
