Ok i can understand putting entire series onto one disc.............but what is the point of a 10 year old movie with a better screen being charged at £25 or do sony just want our money.

Because it's still new technically... like DVDs were back in the day. AT some point, it will go down as production ebcome cheaper.

Because 10-year-old movies in HD still look better than six-month old movies on DVD. Even ancient stuff like Rocky looks amazing on BD.

...and yes, I imagine Sony want people's money as well. It's pretty key to the running of a business.

I was around when VHS and Betamax were fighting, then I've seen CD's coming out, then LaserDiscs, MD's, DVD's and UMD's....

There will always be a next / great thing BD's back support for a previous technology is actually a first, and I hope they keep that. I don't want to have to buy everything all over again, because I don't have equipment anymore.

And the next logical step is downloads via superfast broadband. That's why I'm sitting the whole HD disc era out. Plus I always smile in HMV when I see someone spend £25 on a blu-ray while I spend the same on a stack of six dvd's. 8)

Meh, Blu Ray and HDTV's may have slightly better picture clarity but I still get exactly the same enjoyment out of watching Harvey on a crappy old TV. I'll take DVD's for now.

Another reason for the cost is that they are still expensive to produce (this should start coming down now that the "war" is over for good), also less people have blu-ray machines than they do DVD so the sales points are lower. Something that is interesting however is that Funimation reckon that Blu-Ray sales will make up to at least 30% of US anime sales. Wether this will happen over here is anyones guess.
For anime, Fukunaga expects that Blu-Ray sales will compose up 10-20% of the total for most titles, with some reaching as high as 30%. Overall, in anime, Blu-Ray is spreading much faster than in the market for Hollywood films.

I still prefer original DVDs. I dont care about the extra do dah day in the recent technology. As look as I can see it and hear it then its all good.
And the only good thing about this Blu-ray lark is that its made some prices for those normal dvds to drop down in price. Some films for as little as £3, and theres more sales everywhere - which ain't a bad thing! :)

I find it funny that back on DVD days, they had a very similar ad promoting the brand new DVD technology.... coulnd't find the add on youtube though... anyone else remember the add? they had that on VHS such as the original matrix, godzilla...

Yeah I saw that clip, and it showed Mars Attacks on it.

Now they're advertising Blu-Ray films on rented dvds. Now how the hell can they show you what the picture and sound quality is really like if the actual ad is being shown on a rented (normal) dvd???

Yeah, my point exactly. It's fun to think that a few people might be able to see the "difference" xD

Anyone paying £25 for a single movie on BD needs a slap anyway. Over the last few months I've got Superbad, The Condemned, National Treasure 1 & 2 and others on BD for the same price as the DVDs.

A lot of stuff can often be found online for less than £10 too...and a load of cheap new stuff on import.

I don't think there's enough difference in quality at the mo to warrent changing everything to Blu-ray. I'll stick to good old DVD, ta very much.

The difference in quality can be clearly noticed in larger screens. BD is not a bad thing, I just think it's a bit too expensive right now for me to bother getting one.
Maybe next year.

I noticed minor pixilation watching DVD's on my friends HDTV (it's pretty big). It seemed so minor to me that it's not distracting and nothing to get fussed about. If you do actually notice it you'll forget after a couple of minutes anyway.

That's what I mean, it's not bothersome though. On a BD or HDDVD you don't see the pixelation.
I don't have those fancy audio systems, so I can't tell about sound. Wanted to get one these nice home theater stuff someday though, but cba right now.
