The Boss
Blood: The Last Vampire (AKA: Last Blood in Japan) has got a theatrical release date.
The much anticipated live-action adaptation of Production IG's film Blood: The Last Vampire has its theatrical release date confirmed for the UK.
Directed by Chris Nahon (Kiss Of The Dragon) and choreographed by Corey Yuen (Transporter 1 and 2; Jet Li's The One; X-Men), BLOOD, THE LAST VAMPIRE has Gianna Jun as Saya, the half vampire, half human girl who hunts vampires for a secret US government organisation.

Looks promising. There was a bit of suspect CGI in the trailer, but all the same I'm keen to see what they'll do with the story in a feature length treatment.

I've watched the trailer a few times now and I have to say I'm not impressed.Living in Ireland ,I doubt if it will get released over here which is possibly a good thing as it looks judging from the trailer and the voiceover that the film is being sold as a martial art flick a la Hero,Crounching tiger Hidden dragon and the House of Flying Daggers, two of these films actually being mentioned in the trailer. It looks like the makers took those three films and a hefty dose of the anime version of Blood the last vampire ,chucked them into a blender and came out with that.
Sadly this just reinforces my belief that transferring anime into a live-action format is not a good idea.Granted I'am only going on a trailer but I didn't see anything that was not as good if not better in the anime version.I will propably have to wait till it comes out on dvd to see the whole film but I have a feeling that even after watching it I'll still prefer the anime version.
Here's a few questions for all you guys and gals on the forums.Ouestion 1 ,How many anime series or films have been given the live-action treatment ?
Question 2,What if any anime series or films would you like to see been given the live-action treatment ?
Question 3,Follow on from my first question,is there any live-action films or series that have come out that have proven better than the original anime source material ?

1 - I've seen was Death Note and Initial D. I wanted to see GTO one of these days as well
Edit: I've seen Mushishi as well, although I haven't seen the anime yet to compare.
2 - No idea, the series I like are find like they are now, it would surely be interesting to see them in a new medium, but to be honest I don't think there any real need to change them. (On second though a live action of Higurashi would be awesome)
3 - no

Q1: ones that i know of, Crying Freeman, DragonBall (twice), Guyver, Gundam, Death Note, Cutey Honey, Musishi (sorry if i've spealt it wrong) Fist of the North Star. Plus there is more coming out...

Q2: I'm unsure, i would like to see another go at a live action gundam but i'm afriad it will be another G-Saviour. Thus i rather see a live action Big O keeping the noir style :p

Q3: So far, no in fact some of the aforementioned movies should be erased from the record books completely (the first Guyver film and G-Saviour i'm looking at you)

@Chaos, there's already two live action Higurashi films :p with more on the way apparently.

Hey Blackwolf ,some of the movies you mentioned I knew about but a live-action Gundam film ? Have you seen it and is it any good ?

I've seen parts and from those parts alone i don't want to see anymore, it was created as part of Gundam's 20th anniversary. Although it was very poorly recived and while its techincally part of the main Universal Century gundam timeline, Sunrise have removed it and its only really available in japan now.

Here's some youtube footage. Note this first one has been edited to show only the battle, and not any other scenes that appeared inbetween.

Ok, im ashamed to admit this but... i own this on DVD. There i said it.

The GTO live action stuff is great. Theres the 12 part series, a special and a movie.

Guyver 1 is horrible campy stuff but Guyver 2 is a big improvment (hence my avatar) with some impressive effects and fight scenes for its ages and budget.
