Got five new shows to announce for AoD actually as well it seems - final contract pending but while a few i's and t's are dotted I persuaded folk to make this season of Anime on Demand free as well.

Broadcast will be as close to Japan as possible but for at least one of our partners it's only their second season of simulcasts so they're still adapting. We're helping to ease them in before things really ramp up though...

See further down, as we're warming up for something big pretty soon, I persuaded everyone to let this season remain free so Magi finishes as it started and the five new shows go that way too.

Looking forward to finally having the delicious NDA lifted so I can talk more openly at last too...

Re: Big News! Winter on Anime on Demand will be free as well

Why do I get the feeling AoD have learned the wrong lesson from thier little...er..."tisfit"...with subscriptions?

I didn't want to buy a subscription because it was that or the highway, not because it was there in any capacity.

There's no tisfit and things will change in Spring season - but I have always said my ideal is finding a balance. I think you can't expect free without adverts forever for example - but this season is an exception still.

Doesn't mean stuff won't stay free forever though in this exact format! Enjoy for another season anyway!

And you know my feelings (and the subscriptions I have) on the matter, Sir.

I'm sure he does but I think the rest of us might have missed some of the relevant points?

A forum seach suggests you don't like that your sub might end before a show in that season fully airs, which seems fair enough. But i'm also getting a general reluctance to pay any money for a service?

To be honest I think I came to these forums a little late and missed all this online subscription talk, but I will say i'm confused as to why the model is not something simple like:

Buy a Season and get to watch the episodes within for aslong as the rights are held. Current seasons are at a higher fee and have few adverts, older seasons are available to buy if you missed them at a lower fee and have increased adverts for anyone watching them.

Presumably if they want to allow you to let friends have a taster you can generate a code that allows them limited access?

I'm sure we suggested something in the past where there was a subscription which covered this current season and the past season. Then another subscription option which would have more titles available.

Since I recall bringing up getting titles that aren't suitable for DVD but still might be worth streaming. ~

My hang up was indeed the, frankly, nonsensical subscription periods, Ill defined as they were, and the lack of a "Ad-based" service like the one CR Rolls thus making that the more enticing product.

That and the fact that the season they started doing "Pay up or screw off" was the same season they only had one show airing was marketing only Sony wishes they could think of.
