Bebop Live Action!

HO SHI-

I just read it on AnimeNewsNetwork. Its one of the shows, I actually didn't expect to get an adaptation. I like the fact that its apparently going to be faithful. Here's to another good adaptation! It would be pure awesomeness if Yoko Kanno got to do the soundtrack for it. Oscar-winning, It would be.

 a part of me is not surprised given the adaptions we've already heard about but a part of me wants to curl into a little ball and cry.

Another part of me is optimistic, they could actually make a decent movie if the casting is good and it stays true to the source matrial

They'll have to work exceptionally hard to translate the style of the anime series to live action, and I'm actually fairly cynical about whether they can .....

Visually I agree.

Someone in the lead role who can perform martial arts would be nice since I'd expect some solid hand to hand combat sequences from a liveaction Bebop movie. The martial arts arts in Bebop were more realistic than most martial arts movies.

I'm a huge fan of Cowboy Bebop but find this news slightly worrying. As has already been previously expressed by others in the thread, I'm very concerned how they'll go about the design and visuals of a live action adaptation.
I know it's only in the early stages but a sincerely hope they have a long hard think before moving on with the project.

That'd be good to see but I'm not sure that it'll work too well. As has been mentioned, the fighting scenes inparticular will be difficult to create with a true sense of the original.

It put's me in mind of that Aeon Flux movie. Struggled to capture the feeling of the animation. But then, it was a **** film anyway.

i hope this wont be a too much cgi movie like speed racer
and oh baby it shall be good the guys work for the matrix and scanner darkly so good i think ive seen the movies 3 times over

It sounds great...but i doubt they will be able to hit the nail on the head re-enacting spike seigal....and how are they going to get ed to have the same mentality but not look pathetic?? thats where anime can broaden reality...where people like ed can be weird but wonderful....sasuke from naruto can look mysterious but not emo...where any colour hair is acceptable as the norm...i just don't think trying to do a live action of a brilliant anime will bode well with the anime communities world-wide :/
Still, give it a chance and see how they fair..

I hope for Bebop fans all over that it fairs well like. It mite be a long way off yet till we see anymore movment on the plans for the movie.
So, who do we think would be best suited to play the Bebop Crew? Any thoughts?

That's actually a really good acter for the part. They'd be lucky to get him to do it like.

Maybe Johnny Depp for Spike would be good too?

Yeah johnny depp could get the funny side of spike....or he could be ed lol he can do the weirdness really well :p

I tend to be fairly cynical about live-action anime adaptions - not that I'm one of these NOOOOO! live action will ruin it! types, but I think it's just very hard to pull off the same atmosphere of the series in under two hours whilst simultaneously having to explain the concept / characters to people who have never seen the original. And then dumbing it down for wider appeal (Not that this needs to be done, just that it usually is).

Also, where's live-action Ghost In The Shell? Evangelion? Alita? It's not that I disagree with them being made, just that I'm doubtful they actually will be. :|

What you said. Which is why the movie of Cowboy Bebop worked so well - it's effectively a feature length episode!

As for CB coming off as good live action...don't we have that already? It's called Firefly... :p

They'll spoil it. I know they will.

Seriously, the dub was bad enough (though I have heard worse...), why those damn yanks leave other people's stuff alone?

Ok, I'm calm now.
Apolagies to any Americans reading this.
