ADV's Puni Puni Poemi, the controversial spin-off from 'energetic comedy' Excel Saga has been passed by the BBFC; uncut with an 18 certificate. Many UK fans had expected substantial footage cuts or even a ban from the BBFC.

Has the BBFC relaxed its approach towards anime? We won't have to wait long to find out; Animazing has plans to release 'questionable' hentai La Blue Girl Returns on UK DVD in April. Banned or not, we'll let you know to outcome.

Liberalism lives!!

Seriously though, who wants to place bets on how long it'll take the Daily Mail to create another furore over this?

Indeed, well, I think some of these companies would prefer a bit of controversy to accompany their releases, especially when it comes to hentai; Legend of the Overfiend is still a top seller thanks to all the hassle the UK tabloids tried to create.

i was a little reluctant when i heard 'hentai overtones', but if it's a spin-off from Excel Saga it will definitely be worth keeping my eyes peeled. ;)

Whats '18' about this title?? (I've never seen it).

I haven't seen it either but apparently there are 'heavy sexual undertones' involving an underage kid or something. I haven't even seen Excel Saga yet, so I'm expecting this to be a bit of a shock to the senses.

I did see it quite a while back, & if my memory serves me correctly, I did find it quite...well...rude. Nonetheless, I'm a tad unsure as to whether or not it deserves an 18. The anime goes so fast (dialogue, plot & movement wise!), it's difficult to pick up on most of the content anyway!

I remember someone mentioning an eight-year-old in bondage gear, but I don't know if they were exaggerating - I've not seen it yet either.

Heh. Sounds interesting. The Mail is like a bird searching for worms. It can't be good, especially with the slow promotion of anime and its growth in the UK. The Mail is caught in a lose-lose situation, being too low-brow to be a broadsheet and too political to be a tabloid.

The serie has a few parts where it may have to have a 18 nut most of it is not that bad at all. Im happy to hear that it is to come out uncut this seire is so funny.

It's a anime parody show spin off from an anime parody show.
I love Puni Puni Poemi and I'm glad it's getting a release here, there are few pretty dodgy scenes where they take the piss out tentacle hentai and the 'many girls in one house' scenario of many anime series.
I think the main heroine is pretty young and is involved in all the sex related craziness, so that's what would garner the 18. It's not hentai but there's basically lots of nudity and semi nudity stuff for a scene or two of one episode (I can't remember if Puni is 2 or 3 episodes but it is short).
If you liked Excel you'll like it.
