BBC 'ASIAN' NETWORK

Meh.
My complaint:
"You are either racist, or narrow-minded. You call yourselves the 'Asian' network, and therefore represent the 'british-asian' community on the radiowaves. Untrue. You attempt only to represent 'south-asian', or rather Indian culture. I see no involvement whatsoever of the increasingly large Japanese music industry and other cultural aspects of japanese, or any Asian community excluding India/Pakistan. I demand, either that you include pan-asian cultural aspects in your programming, or change your name. Disgraceful. I Could, in fact file racism charges against the BBC, and undoubtedly, win."

Your thoughs, i can't be bothered writing this AGAIN.

Spread the word! 有賀と!

...wha? What do you expect, BBC Asia is aimed at Asians in this country, which compromise of Indian/Pakistani.

The Japanese/Chinese/Other asians are meerly a small... audience.

The point is, Asia is culturally diverse and isn't restricted to India. so they need to change their name, or alternitively, change the programming to represent the true asian community. not just india. which is an ethic minority in asia. Well, i say that, even though they're second behind China and Japan being the minority. THAT'S NOT THE POINT! do you want a british japanese Radio/tv channel?

Yes, maybe I'd like a japanese tv channel, it could be interesting. But that doesn't mean I take offense that there isn't one and call the BBC racists, lol.

This doesn't make the BBC racist... considering (taking a stab in the dark here) that you're an anime/manga fan, it's easy for you to rage at them for not having anything Japanese/Chinese related.

I agree that a name change could be a fair decision. But it still doesn't make the BBC racist X]. You could take them to court, but you would, undoubtedly, lose.

I'll be honest, seeing various other channels outwith indian ones and so on would be a nice touch, however, i think the reason the "Asian Network" is lacking in its variation is mainly down to the fact that the majority of the asian population here is, without a doubt, Indian and such. Ok there is an ever increasing amount of chinese people here studying, but from what i can gather, most of them do leave after graduation. I can see what you mean, its just that, at present, arguing for a japanese section does seem fairly pointless as there is less of a japanese community here than others. Until we see more coming here even just to study, i doubt that one particular country will get much to show.

Moved to random chit chat.

OT: I fail to understand your rant.
Pakistanis and indians are asians as chinese and japanese are.

Have you ever heard them saying that they would never broadcast anything chinese or japanese? Also, what about the sri lankans or the filipinos? Are they not asians as well?

Point is, it's a television channel. They will air whatever interests their viewers. I'm pretty sure that you can request more diversity and if they have enough people asking the same, I'm sure they would listen.

I don't agree . They are asian as well, as far as I know. Do you think the other ethnicities / cultures are not well represented, I can relate to that, but still it's all about ratings.

Ok, sorry about wrong section

What i'm trying to say is that it ain't fair labeling an Indian/Pakistan exclusive radio channel an 'Asian' network. Asia is huge and India is a very small part of it. I don't care about audiences and Ethnic Minorities/Majorities, but about the fact that I am apparrently a target audience for Asian Network due to the fact that i am an avid follower of east asian culture, whereas Asian network focuses on indians.

This isn't exactly about the lack of Japanese TV/radio, but that they are stereotyping Asia as Bollywood loving belly~dancers lol

And no, this ain't just about Japan/China, i do know that there are many more asian ethnicities, and that's the point- India is only one of them, and does not represent Asia as a whole. So, yes BBC is being racist simply due to the name of their radio channel.

Racism: Hate against a race.

"they are stereotyping Asia as Bollywood loving belly~dancers lol"

By saying that, aren't you stereotyping them too? ^^

They are not being racism. By saying that you mean they are either using the word asian as derogatory o implying some sort of prejudice. That's not the case. That is merely a generalization.

Also, what will said above.

Oh, the irony. I put that in there precisely because they're stereotyping Asians.

I get your arguement, but it is true that labeling an Indian exclusive channel as Asian is a bit silly. Well, i say silly, i mean offensive to very few, and annoys me because i'm an ********.

And 'Racism: Hate agaist race' is untrue, according to the government.
If i attacked a chinese person (For example), and called them 'chinks', it would be considered racism. which is untrue if i was attacking and abusing them for a different reason. You imply that the motive makes you racist, whereas in the legal world, racism is situational. which is completely insane.

Anyways, i just want Asian network to be Indian network instead. or something.

No, not really. The intent/motive behind the said attack is exactly what sepperates offenses (S18 Gbh from S20). Not that has anything to do with the intiall arguement.

Therefore Racism is simply hate against a race.

Which means BBC aren't racist, friend.

I see your point bra'

Problem is they wanna cater to all the Indians/Pakistani's as earlier mentioned. Whats confusing is; we're encouraged to learn about other cultures as we are now a multi-cultural society yet, our' BBC Asia' only teaches us about a tiny amount of Asia.

You probably could win the court case if your Japanese/Chinese, however if your British you will undoubtedly lose. Thats how it works now. I complained about a teacher in my school being racist to one of my friends (Note: She is racist.) but you get no where, in the end I got in more trouble for accusing my teacer. It's a ****** up world we live in, or, to be more precise, a ****** up Britain.

Thankfully we have the internet to correctly educate ourselves on other cultures.I'd just be a pain in the ass and keep complaining until they reply lol.

BTW// If they do put more 'Japan' stuff on do say. Or to be more precise, more Anime with subs.

You can't be serious, are you? There is nothing racist about using the word Asia and focussing on a particular part of the continent. I'm shocked at how unbelievably stupid that complaint is.

Good luck with that. How about suing G@me Network for not showing video games while you're at it?

I'm shocked at the fact he thinks he can win a court case on such a stupid complaint.

If I was LanceRusso, I'd lock this thread and pretend it never happenend. I can't even believe people are entertaining the idea that BBC Asia should be forced to show anime because Japan is in Asia. I'm almost embarrassed I'm a regular on a forum that takes this nonsense seriously.

It's pretty ironic that just because it's Asia, it should mean that it should show anime. When in fact, Anime is liked by 'nerdy geeks' who are the direct comparison of Star Trek fans. Why do you think most of them reside in Akihabara for =P

By the by, BBC Asian Network is a digital radio station, no moving pictures. So no anime that way. Maybe petition for some j-pop eh. Or maybe just enka.

I would like to have Enka first, though that's just me. J-Rock and J-Pop is just a predictable choice.
